"You cannot initiate dialog. ***** seems busy" - problem! Please help *begs on knees*

Hello.

I have been playing this game for quite some time. A bug seems to have struck me though. For some mysterious reason, nobody in the game wants to speak to me anymore. Some key-characters will speak to me when they walk up to me and start talking automatically. But i can't initiate dialogue, that is to say, when i click on someone to talk to them, i get the message "You cannot initiate dialog. ***** seems busy".

This is troubling, because i can't receive quests or certain quest-items which means i can't really get anywhere in the game. I was in Underdark when this occured, and i was trying to talk to one of the Duergar Dwarves in order to get the "Light Gem", but he is constantly "busy" and won't talk to me..

Please, has anyone seen this before? What should i do?

very strange bug... What's your reputation? If it's extremely low, it might explain why no one wants to talk to you anymore... Else it's a bug, and I'm afraid the best way of solving it is reloading an old savegame. I reckon you tried resting already?

I had the exact same problem in my game. the only advice I can give is to revert to an older saved game,and if that dosen't work try to reinstall BG2. I hope that hellps some.

Install the latest patch. The "*** seems busy" bug is listed as one of the ones fixed by the patch.

There is currently a bug with Win2K users with Service Pack 2 installed, in which NPCs respond with "X appears busy".

This is fixed in the current BG2: Throne of Bhaal Patch "

I have also heard that if you have a third party fix or tweak installed that changes the dialog.tlk file and do not uninstall that fix prior to installing ToB, this error can also occur.
