What is more important wisdom or charisma?

Post by philpjfry »

I am trying to decide in which attribute should I invest in wisdom or charisma or both equally for my Consular and soon to be Sith Lord?

I'd go for both in a big way if you are DS consular (and therefore not likely to be hitting things with your saber, but rather using destruvtive Force Powers against them. But Wisdom will make it easier during the first third of the game, as it affects your Force Points, and for the first 3 planets you may find your Force-based attacks limited by Force Points. After that, it doesn't matter, as your FP will be effectively unlimited as a Consular/Sith Lord, (you have so many they never run out in any battle occurring)and I find CHA comes into is own, by reason of the bonus it gives to your companions' (melee or ranged, not Force?) attack.

However, I'm told by certain walkthroughs that the bonuses against enemies save rolls stack for WIS and CHA, so you may want to have both at a high level if you rely on Powers for damaging enemies...

as a sentinel/sith lord i put points in both. throughout the game i found a lot more wisdom enhancing stuff than charisma enhancing stuff so i was glad i put points into charisma too. i think i had charisma 14 or something and wisdom in the twenties by the time i got to a high level. (the wisdom boosted by a lot of items)

since kotor II rules are based on dnd 3d edition the only thing charisma does is enhancing the force powers that messes with the mind like, fear and all other that affects the mind of others and ofcorse when it sais it ands charisma modifier but it is onlt wis that ads to force points so i would go with wisdom first hand and cha second

You're clearly a darksider; therefore I think you should mostly work on Wisdom. IMHO:

CHA is important to a LS character wishing to use offensive powers - neutral and, more often, DS, because it subtracts the penalty given for using powers that don't fit the character's alignment. However, you'll be quite happy with using DS powers, what with being a DS Consular and Sith Lord, and having no penalty to those destructive powers, therefore no real need for high CHA. I'm guessing you won't be looking for high Persuade, since darksiders generally just go around killing people instead of being manipulative for any cause. (sorry if that offends you) And you'll also be powerful enough yourself do be able to do without the 'party uplift bonus' given by CHA.

What I'm trying to say is, I think you need Wisdom more than you need Charisma. I hope you understood this minirant.

You should do so well as to be sucked into the engine of some evil Sith Lord, you know.

My Guardian/Weapon Master started with 10 each in Wisdom and Cha but I was able to get my wisdom up to 26 with items by the end. I only upped wisdom two points with level ups. My CHA was still a paltry 14 with items but it really wasn't needed. I missed not being able to make persuade checks but the Force persuade powers were two of the first that I got so that helped. Apparently CHA helps companions attacks but it's not really needed since they are usually badass anyway, not to mention what you can do. At the end my weapon master was destorying enemies with force and force powers. It was quite good fun.

It's good for any class to have a natural Constitution of 18 though for vitality and to use the best upgrades. Universal upgrade will give you +2 for all stats and the mental boost will give +3 for Int, Wis and Cha.

i've never found high constitution to be a necessity, in fact i rarely have it above 12. by the time you get to higher levels you don't miss it and there are loads of other ways to get the stuff you get from the higher implants without wearing implants. i like charisma cos its personal choice but don't go overboard on wisdom, as others and myself have said, there are a lot of wisdom boosting items in the game. i found dexterity is more useful than constitution as with robes and high dex you can end up with defense in the high 30s to low 40s and that means constitution is no longer an issue. also, if you plan on using ds powers like force storm you really do not need most of the benefits of high constitution or high strength as a high wisdom, reasonable charisma combined with ds force powers will destroy any bad guy in the game with ease, especially the sith lords themselves, with little or no need for any melee fighting.

A couple additional points on the Wisdom vs Charisma attribute argument.

Both are equally important, dark or light side, male or female to NOT have negative modifiers in. So don't give your character an 8 for example unless you never plan to use force powers offensively. Of the two to emphasize, the question really comes down to how much a force user you are.

If you prefer melee, a high Wisdom modifier allows you to shrug off force powers used against you and is very helpful in the final battle. Moreover, you get to add your Wisdom bonus modifier to defense if you are male and follow the proper dialogue path with the Handmaiden.

If it were up to me, as a melee specialist, I would put my points into Wisdom, and only increase Charisma beyond, say 10-12, only if I were really emphasizing force powers, since the modifier helps. As a pure force user, I would give the nod to Wisdom, but make sure Charisma was kept up with a decent modifier, like +2, so it would rarely get over 14.

The whole issue of Wisdom vs Charisma over the course of the game isn't really significant due to high +wisdom items. The Persuade skill is really what impacts dialogue (as do force feats like mind domination if you are dark) so Charisma really doesn't do much in that area. Other than its modifier, it really isn't critical, whereas Wisdom has more benefits for its modifier. At character creation, the cost for attribute points is so high at a certain point that Charisma is generally one of the last things I raise and even then, I keep it in the 10-12 range.

In short, I would almost always push up Wisdom.
