That's probably the most realistic and logical way of looking at it yet and I agree with you. But I only see the need for extraordinary evidence if this is a claim that;s going to effect alot of people: if the government were to tell me we're selling off that plot of land in WV where mothman was to the canadians because we fear it's one of those "extradimensional portals" and don't want it, then I'd say "Find some real proof dammit." But this effects only a handful of people, so what's the need for tons of evidence? This dopesn't change my life in any way, so why should I need evidence?

I believe in some things, like the powers of self preservation, not like they are going to do me any good, Ill be dead in ten years any way, going to die in a car crash when im 25 , the accident most likely wont be my fault, though it will be after a particularly traumatic incedent, not necesarily a death of a friend or family member, alcohol most likely wont be involved, unless im in new jersey or montana, and it will be a minor accident except for my death by some wierd cause, maybe a flying bit of metal, a shard from a windshield that shattered, or just my air bags wont deploy.

You don't need evidence. But the spread of nonsense is a problem for all of us. At the very least it keeps real news out of the papers and serves the powers that be very well as distraction. Or so I think.

The press plays a major part in that though. They determine whether a news story is going to be shown or ignored, it's rank of importance (whether it is at the beginning or end of a newspaper/broadcast) and the amount of bias in the reporting.

Oh come on, now you're implying that all of this truly is nonsense: don't assume you're right when evidence is lacking on both sides. Let's face it too I hardly see the mothman story as a global threat: it's only appeared in random little articles like this every now and then and I doubt it's kept any 'real' stories out of the news. I hardly think it works in the favor of the powers that be. 90% of important news stories don't get printed and it has nothing to do with mothman or bigfoot. Isn't this a wee bit dramatic?
