New Game problems

I am new to this forum and I am going to install the game today.

Is there anything really critical I should know first about this game?
What is the latest version of the patch?
Are there any MODs for this game and any recomendations?

i've never used any mods so can't help you there but there is the official 1.2 patch that fixes a few bugs, then there are the unofficial patches. the latest is version 2.0. i've never used that but i have version 1.8 installed on my game and it works great. version 2.0 is very recent though so it may have a few teething problems still, not sure, others would prob no more about that. i think version 1.9 had a few problems too but i think they may have been fixed by version 2.0. you should be able to find links to the patches on the gamebanshee site, thats where i got them from.

edit: i'd highly recommend at least getting the official 1.2 patch though as i think you need this to use the unofficial patches and the game is full of bugs but 1.2 makes it playable (i used 1.2 the first two times i played it with no real problems)

I'll do that My next concern is that I just tried to run the game after installing and it does not run?
I can get into all the options but when I press New Game, it goes to a start screen where I see a flash of a paragraph then the whole game is down. Nothing. desktop?

sorry can't help you there, but i'm sure i can remember reading something on this forum about somebody else that could not get it to start and it crashing to desktop right at the beginning. mine crashes to desktop every now and then but i always put it down to my useless pc/graphics card as it only happens when a lot is happening at once and not very often at all. at the start there is a cutscene/movie that doesn't play properly on my pc (the sound stutters a bit) so it may be something to do with that movie not playing properly or something

What are your system specs patrick? When it comes to crashing on this game, it's usually down to an insufficient graphics card or your visual memory is too low or something. When I first got the game I had high RAM and a more than decent processor but it crashed on loading because I was running on inbuilt graphics, but after installing a new graphics card it ran smoothly and with no hiccups.

0.0 Definately no problem there then. In that case I'd suggest reinstalling the game to see if that helps, and if it doesn't I'd suggest downloading a patch to see if that helps at all.

I have 1.2 now installed I am downloading 2.0 but i think i might try differrent screen resolutions maybe

Yeah, to my knowledge the game supports 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768, I run it on the second option and it works just fine.

Yeah and I think believe it or not there is a third option for screen resolution.

So I believe it is patched I checked changing resolutions and my fire wall and it still crashes at the beginning. It leaves an error file in the game folder. Can this help figure out my problem?

Does it matter what disk I have to run the game, I assume disk one.
Also I was tld that the game is uncompatible with certain CD roms so as to install a cd crack. Does anyone feel this relevent.
I am thinking no, because I do get options and a split glimpse into the beginning paragraph of the game? Maybe it is My SLI game

have you tried just reinstalling incase it was a bad install - i know i've had trouble with the installation messing up before and i think other people on these forums have too.

Hmmm...Might be your SLI configuration....Have you installed latest graphic drivers ?

No but I would think SLI drivers I have should be sufficent because they are probably, probably newer than the game itself?
Reinstall maybe, I'll try not to for a while

Duh, for the life of me, I wish I knew how to access that stuff. Do you have SLI Lucita?
Um, I seem to remember a page where there is a list of games and the all can be custom and pre configured, but I don't know how to get to that page.
I wish. Drivers I am thinking are good since they were installed in November.
Pretty cool cards because of custom gaming stuff. I know with SLI you can figure a game with multipale formats for the duel cards this may be my only option here.

PS I just reinstalled and right now without the patch it does not load by clicking the link on the desk top. It used to, then went to the play option then crashed after patch so their is a little feedback too.

have you tried seeing if it loads up from the cd itself rather than the shortcut on the desktop - also, is this a shortcut that remained from the previous installation, because you may need to make a new shortcut.

Well...Don't have SLI or Crossfire ( the ATI version ), just a 256 MB ATI Radeon X850 Pro.

You should be able to get the drivers directly from Nvidia/Geforce. Just go to their support site and download the latest driver set for your Chip model. I don't know about Nvidia/Geforce but ATI ( which I use exclusively ) issues new driver updates every month. You might even send them an email and ask if there are any reported problems with Vampire and SLI chipsets.

Otherwise...I don't know...maybe you can post the error log here, and some people with a clue about coding can help you....

Have you tried to start the game in "Safe Mode"...never tried it, but it's a feature in the start menu of the game. Just click the windows start button and access the game through the program list.

I wonder if he still has registry entries from a previous install. That could be messing things up.

Yep....

Uninstall it again...clear out the registry. And then make a clean reinstall of the english language version and the patches 1.2 ( offical ) and after that worked install the 2.0 patch ( unoffical ). I remember issues with other language version too. My german version isn't working correctly too, so I had to install the english version instead.
