Paladin and Strength Issue

Post by sparhawk_tr »

Now i am playing IWD2 HoF mode. I finished the game in normal mode long ago. And decided to play again in HoF mode. But there is a problem about my Paladin. He has a 20 strength with artifacts. But any new artifacts can not increase that stat. Only thing that can buf-up my Paladin's strength is spell. Champion Strength increases it to 23. So is it a normal limitation or a bug? BTW i have latest game update.

Thanks.

sparhawk, in IWD2, nearly every stat-enhancing item and potion, and spell for that matter, does not allow stacking of stat bonuses.

That is, if you have a belt that gives you a +3 to STR, a ring that gives you a +1 to STR will have no effect. For that matter, IIRC, any spell that gives you a +3 or less to your STR in my example would also be ignored. This is mostlikely why the Champion's Strength spell is the only thing that will enhance your pally's STR since C.S. is able to generate a larger STR bonus that whatever STR enhancing item your pally is currently wearing.

...there is no stacking of attribute boni!

...not matter if comes from an item or a spell - only the highest one counts!

...only generic and/or permanent attribute increases (as you can get them from some rare potions, by quest or when increasing levels) will stack!

Thanks for your replies. I've tried what u said and obviously you are right about this. But unfortunately my paladin is not a acceptable tank anymore. Because he has not a good armor class (26) and as long as he has not a strength above 20 he is not lethal.
I hope later in game i will find better artifacts that enhances my paladin.

Thanks again.

...a pal is not a good tank in IWD2 - will always have a useless AC - as you won't find any good armor...

...and even STR isn't that important, as the best pal-weapon you can find is one-handed!

Hmm.. What is wrong with a one-handed weapon. If you metioned Holy Avanger , that should be a very good weapon. Because Paladin with a low AC needs a shiled at least. So Holy AV. doesn't take away that oppurtunity. And dispel magic and protection from evil are also both great attributes of Holy Av.
Of course this is a point on view, and for now i am not satisfied with poisiton of my paladin. But I think in HoF mode Spell Casters are the back bone of the party. With enough summon you can survive in situations like Shaergane Brigde. Where the enemy gang-bang upon you.
Thanks for you suggestions. And have a nice day. :)

...due to the smaller STR boni on damage of a one-handed weapon STR is not that crucial for a pal as every pal will certainly use HA in IWD2!

...AC no matter if with or without shield will be to low for the later game and especially for HOF!
