Hey, the only Adnd-related RPG i know where u HAVE to create your whole party is IWD, with BG and BG 2 and Planescape: Torment u can create one character yourself, and the rest of your party consists of characters u pick up during your quests.
U can also create a multiplayer game for BG2, create a party and then use it for single player, or something like this. But im not very fond of playing this way, because one of the great aspects of the game is interaction with other characters.
About playing through the games, well, it kinda depends on your playing style, if u pay little attention to the plot, or if u have very good strategic insight, u will finish it faster. But most of these game will take u quite a long time to finish, im not good at guessing but around 80 hours for the first time through would be appropriate.
Hope to have helped

BG1 & 2 can be played like IWD in multiplayer mode. You create a party of upto 6 and play them all yourself. But you do miss out on the NPC ineraction - which doesn't seem to bother you.

Yeah, you miss out too much if you make your own party in the BG games. I havent played Pool of Radiance (the new one). Eye of the Beholder I remember you make your own party of 4, i think, but I didnt like the 3D game format. Now some of the older AD&D games, if you can get them to work on a newer PC, are cool. Some titles are: Curse of the Azure Bonds, Pool of Radiance(the original), Pools of Darkness, Secret of the Silver Blades, Savage Frontier (not exact title) and a trilogy from Dragonlance I cant remember the name of. I know there are more that I am forgetting. Now most of these titles are from Commodore 64 days, so don't expect much from the graphics, but the games are pretty darn fun none the less.
