If there's reall an IWD II...

Post by Doc »

Frankly, I love IWD almost as much as BG, mostly because the damn load times are faster. As far as character levels, you can go to 40. BG did it. It's fine. I'd like to be able to import at least one character, maybe two. They could limit it. That way you keep some continuity. I've grown almost as attatched to a few IWD folks as I did my BG guy. We DO need a good story. And something like the BG strongholds for a character or two. Just random thoughts. But I would like to keep a few of my characters. Developing these people IS role-playing you know.

I might be one of the few...but if it comes out I hope it starts at level one...no importing. If was great in BG2, but over time it gets old. New places and new faces. :D this is what I hope for. I don't want to be a god any more.

Join the rant.

I agree with weasel. The fun of IWD was starting with a level 1 party.

When IWD2 comes along, I don't want to import my level 20 odd party - they're already too powerful.

Hopefully, the challenge in IWD2 will be better fights and improved AI challenges - not more overpowered artefacts and special powers (just ow many +6 swords of evil @$$ whupping are there?). :)

I agree with Weasel and GB, the idea of going back to zero appeals to me.

I got bored of the God hood, and look forward to using long swords+1 and they being dominant weapons :D :D

I agree all around. One of the biggest joys of starting over at lvl 1 has been relearning all the low level spells. Playing SOA and TOB, you forget about most of the low level spells when you have an arsenal of six and seventh level spells to play with. In IWD I had to figure out how to use Color Spray strategically. There's so much more manuveuring to do with the low level spells, you can mess up your party a lot more than your enemies usually. I've had to learn how to position my mage to cast A's Scorcher without toasting a party member, but keeping him out of harm's reach. When I go back to SOA and TOB, I'll certainly be using my mages more effectively.

You guys make it sound like you can't put together a level one party in IWD anymore. You can create a new party, any time. Who says you HAVE to have a god in your party? In fact, I just finished playing through with NO gods for the first time since the game came out. Replayability is all about options. I'd like the option of importing a character. It doesn't mean you HAVE to. Sheez. Maybe I'm really attatched to my Paladin, or I'd like to import a thief or cleric. I don't understand why someone wouldn't want the option.

We're talking about sequels. Sure you can play IWD over again with level 1 characters and sure you can start a new game (BG2) with a new (but powerful) character.

Rather than this latter approach, most of us are saying we'd rather play a new sequal with new characters. Exploring a whole new game with new level 1 characters is way better than continuing the same old boring "Oh, I'm already a God, how much nore poerful can I be".

So Gruntboy, you're saying to each his own, even if that means being able to import a character, right? Maybe I want to start the new game with a level 1 party. I've enjoyed IWD as much with a level 1 party as with a couple gods. That's my point. I just want the friggin' option. I understand everyone may have preferences. Fine. Play it your way. I think I agree with most people when they say the real enjoyment is developing a level 1 party and the thrill of finally finding a +1 sword. I've also gone back with just two god-like players and played all the way through, which was a real hoot. Again, it's all about having the options.
