Story of my Gaming Life

Well, I can't as of yet comment on that, as I am a FF noob and have only played FF-X. However this is not necessarily my fault as my parents have been very very anti- games for most of my 15 or so years of living. That is, until my dad discovered MMORPG's via my cousin. He fell in love with MMORPG's and bought a wide variety of them, the instant he came home from work he would go straight to his computer and play games until he went to bed at 3am. Then he would trudge up to bed and snore until 7am and get up and go to work... he's been doing this for 3 years now, it's starting to get a bit predictable and a little bit sad for a 46 year old man with a wife and two children.

Anyway, a year or so after he discovered gaming as a form of escapism, he bought my younger sister and I a Playstation 2 after condemning them and all games consoles for I don't know how many years. Well, FF-X was a game bought for me by my friend, and I fell in love with it. Of course, I had never before seen anything like it, as I had been shielded from the world of console gaming for years. So nobody can say anything to what they might think is a poor taste for games... I am a deprived child! *sobs*

Although, even though having a dad who doesn't talk to me can be seen as a handicap, it works to its advantages. He buys me games now, much to my poor mother's dismay. I... am never quite so bored any more, unless lying in my bed not asleep trying to escape the evils of insomnia. I just wish this had all happened a little sooner however, so that I wouldn't be so addicted to gaming during my exam years.

It's not as if I never had played any games before the purchasing of the PS2, of course. I used to play old-school shoot-em-ups like Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem etc from the age of 3 (disturbed kid I was...) but games weren't really a big part of my life. I watched more TV then. Later came the pre-teen phase of the Sims (plus the 100 expansion packs) and tasteless commercial games like Theme Park World. Nothing with a lasting character, nor any intrigueing charm of any sort. Along came the decline of the television, even as we updated with a Freeview box, and the endless "reality TV shows" began. The demise of original television as we once knew it. I was bored. I needed something new. And that's when he discovered MMORPG's... blah.

Wow if you've read all that. :)
I game, therefore I am.
Oh, and I really wish I had a PSP! :( my friend has one, he says it's the best hand held graphics he's ever seen. *sighs and drools* what a thing it is to have money...
well, unless you really, really want to watch films on it (and I must admit it's remarkably good at it) I'd wait until either the price drops or a decent range of games is released. I mostly use it for watching Ghost in the Shell and Kung-Fu Hustle on the bus rather than gaming at the moment.

personally, I'm a huge fan of FF VII and Tactics but I've rather gone off the series since. I quite liked IX (although a love story between characters that look like 7-year-olds is still a bit unsettling in my opinion), but the trend is very much towards creating bright, shiny worlds and characters with the natural charm and charisma of a drowned cat in a bag. although I quite like rikku, but that's not necessarily down to scintillating characterisation. ahem.

At last incapable of further harm
As of yet, I have not discovered any Final Fantasy X specific threads, so was wondering are there any other fans out there? I decided I'd make a thread specific to it, just to see out of general interest and for general discussion of FFX if anybody else out there is as addicted to it as I am.

If I've failed to see a thread specific to FFX, feel free to point me in the right direction and delete this thread, moderators.

So anyway, favourite character/s/aeon/s/npc/s?

And... while I'm here... (spoilers, don't read if you don't want to know things relevant to ending :) ) ...after the battle where you enter Sin and end up fighting Seymour for about the 3rd time (I think??) does anybody have any tips on defeating him? My Lulu has armour with Ice eater, Fire eater and Water eater equipped, so she is pretty well armoured against his elemental attacks. She also has "One MP cost" equipped on her "Magical Cactuar Scope" so that's all okay, and she also has the white magic ability of "Life" to heal her comrades! Yet I can't seem to beat him still... where am I going wrong? She is weak in defense of physical attacks, I know this, but more than compensates for this with her elemental abilities which all turn environmental damage into HP... Help would be good. Very good. :D
the slow and painfull way i got pass is the suminings and ice eater

Summonings... did you acquire Anima before embarking on this quest? I forget to get some of the items and so when I came to the Baaj temple, I realised that I had 3 more to go. Upon returning to these 3 temples, all the dark aeons always kick my a*** mercilessly with their 9999999 hp and their 9999 hp attacks to my poor characters who's hps are only like 4000. I thought about Yojimboing it... but he rarely does Zanmato (opponent's hp and mp go down to 1) like I mentally ask him to... and then we all die. Dah. Even when I've bothered to battle with him until he's in overdrive. Nearly always disappoints me. I wish you could have more control over him, instead of having only the command "Pay".

Like Suikoden I&II and Valkyrie Profile. I decided to buy PSP instead of iPod I originally budgeted for because of them. :D
It is wildely believed in Japan that there will be either model change or price cut (or both) for PSP in this summer. Considering Nintendo DS just announced new model on sale in March, I think Sony has to introduce at least price cut to compete against them (in Japan, DS easily beaten PSP).

As for FF series, new FF7 Dirge of Cerberus came on sale on Thursday 26, but it seems to be "not as good". Graphics is great, as you'd expect, yet everything else is kinda mediocre and a bit tricky.

Also, it is announced FFXI Ahturhn's (sp?) Secret Treasure would be available on PS2, Windows, and XBox360 on 20 April.

I got bored of Devil May Cry. I should like to play Fable, anywhere I can get a cheap copy?

Nah, why start over when I've spent over 80 hours playing the game?? (I am a prefectionist, you see). I will find a way.

My heart is still set on acquiring a PSP... I could take it into school during my GCSE's and relax in between exams. Other people will be mindlessly revising, trying to cram at the last minute, but I'd be sitting there playing on my PSP having revised everything for months on end, relaxing and not being so stressed that I mess up the exam. Or not... But hey. Still want one.

Actually, the strongest Dark Aeon, Anima, only have 8.000.000 hp, whilst Nemesis have 10.000.000 and Penance 12.000.000 (though 3/4 attacks must be made on his arm so it's more like 50.000.000).

Besides, only Dark Valefor does a measly 9.999 hp attack. Dark Anima does about 300.000 and have insta-kill while the Dark Magus Sisters' Passado do too much to count and their ulti will insta-kill you wether you have auto-life and stuff or not. And Nemesis can of cource insta-kill your party if you let his arms live. -_-

Yojimbo's Zanmato kills something in one hit, but you must be friendly with him, pay him much and have luck. I never used this myself - I fin'd it way to cheaty. Well, I used it on an overgrown larva out in the desert just to try it, but I would have one-hit-KO'd him anyway.

And the old Seymour Omnius and his elemental attack - the music was great but I think he was a pushover, I don't even remember the battle. Most likely I did it like every other boss battle - Make sure you have mega-overdrive before the battle (all characters and aeons have overdrives ready) and just unleash them upon the unsuspecting boss. I don't remember if Seymous Omnius needed elemental damage to be killed though... Try it and let me know?
