Trouble Transferring Char to Other PC

Post by MicheleSB »

I'm playing Fable TLC on PC.

Early in the game I transferred my save files to another computer. However, now all my attempts to transfer them result in the other computer showing them as corrupted.

For instance, my son was playing Fable on another computer. He liked my char so I sent the files over via home network and placed them properly in the My Games folder. He wants my more experienced version, so I renamed the files to Elder and xfered them into the appropriate places on his computer: Photojournal, Saves, Tattoos. The files show as corrupted, so I removed them from his computer. Now the first files I sent to him no longer work either. His own chars work fine.

I also installed the game on my laptop another time, but it didn't like my files. They play fine on my machine.

What's going on? Any idea? Thanks in advance.

Correction: " Now the first files I sent to him no longer work either." Those files do work okay. But the Elder files do not. Everything looks good in the My Games folder, and I tried using my portable storage instead of xferring the files via network. No luck. Maybe there is some other place I need to make a change. If so, I don't remember doing it the first time it worked.

I solved this, and will post here for documentation, in case someone else has the same problem:

When adding profile and save files for a character/profile already existing, the existing files need to be deleted and the new ones named the same as the original ones. The character name is embedded in the files regardless of filename, and conflicts will occur with 2 profiles with the same embedded name.
