Go to any shop and click on the eye at the bottom left of the screen, then click on the item you need to identify.
Listen up maggots, Mr. Popo's 'bout to teach you the pecking order.
It goes you, the dirt, the worms inside of the dirt, Popo's stool, Kami, then Popo.

Having a high enough Lore when you right-click the unidentified item will also identify it. Certain items can also increase your Lore.

If you identified every unknown item you found in the game at a shop, you would spend thousands of gold pieces for identifying costs alone. Save your hard earned gold for other things by doing the following:

1) Equip all/any items that give you a boost to your INT ability and lore skill, then right click the item to see if it becomes identified. Items that raise these abilities are quite rare so hang on to them for the duration of your adventure.

2) If that doesn't work, with all those items still equiped, try drinking a potion of lore that you may have found and right clicking on the item again. Best to do this when you have several unknown items so you get the most out of each lore potion.

3) If that does'nt work you can try getting a fox's cunning spell cast on you as well.

4) If it still doesn't work get a shop to do it :D

That's not a problem at all, since about 80% of the stuff you find is going to be sold off anyway, and for the most for way more money then the 100 gp's it takes to identify them,

But true, if one doesn't need to pay for identification you have more money to purchase things you really need. Though the official campaigns atleast offer so much loot that no one really runs out of money.
