New Reno - The best siding

Post by Wrath »

I've been thinking about the families at New Reno, and I thought 'bout the best family to side with. Actually, I finished the game 3 times (I think), and I sided with the Mordinos twice (it's the easiest to, I think) and one with Salvatore's, which is regretful.

So I've never sided with the Wrights, (that's the spelling?) and I wish to know you opinion, guys, 'bout the best family to side with. Also, is there a family which provides you with more xp than others?

Also, I'll stick to this topic another question: Joining the enslavers is really worth? I mean, you can't get into Vault City (which Wozaii contested the advantages of gettin' in) and suffer prejudice in a lot of places, just to get some money on the rides and waste a lot of precious time? Or there are more advantages that I do not know?

I always join the Wrights, and play them last, after playing out the Mordinos, Salvatores, and Bishops. I think this allows me to get the maximum number of quests in New Reno. But since I tend to always play New Reno the same way, I am no expert. I like the idea of joining the Wrights, because their business is liquor, which is a relatively harmless thing, when compared with jet, slaves, or whatever.

I get the location of the Military Base from the Wrights, and when I finish that quest, I am made a member of the Wrights. I don't think they even ask, they just sign me up. Not sure why it works that way.

I usually sign up with the Wrights (correct spelling Wrath :) ) because of many reasons. As Sparrow always pointed out, they only deal with alcohol, and that makes them a lot cooler i think. And the Wright boss is kind of like The Godfather. They are also loosing power at rapid speed, and they dont deal in drugs either. Apart from that, they also give best exp. The Mordinos are easy, and you get Myron, but their quests doesnt give so many exp. If you play with the Wrights, you gain access to the Sierra Army Depot which is filled with guns, medical supplies, food, ammunition, armor, exp. You can even train your melee skill there (But only 10 or 15% up i think...) and... Skynet is there. And he sure is cool. You also get a nice piece of Fallout History from that place, and it has kind of a spooky atmosphere... Really, really spooky. And really really cool! And even if you side with the Wrights, you can still get Myron, if you picked him up earlier. So i usually go for the Wrights. Making fun of the wife is also a laugh:laugh:.

As for the raiders, its definitely tougher playing as a raider, than playing as anything else. You normally get ambushed by raiders yourself, but now you get ambushed by NCR Rangers, and all sorts of crazy dudes! Plus you cant gain access to a lot of quests, which kind of sucks. But, however, being a raider unlocks some very special dialogues, and i am sure it is also mentioned in the ending. Also, Fallout is a Role-playing-game, and being a raider gives you the chance to play a character, that you normally wouldnt. I never went all the way myself, but someday i will.

well the ansewers are good.. kem 'em coming!
(oh btw, is it possible to do the final quests of all of the families, don't report, report only to the Wrighs, become a Wright-Made and then report the rest to the rest of the families or nope?)

Well, once you are a made man, the other families will attack you if you go to their casinoes, or if you talk to them. But it is possible to fix all the quests, except the last quest, for all the families and then pick a family and complete their last quest. Like making an example of Lloyd, but not oversee the exchange for the Salvatores.

Damn, I've never heard of skynet before... now I just checked out at the NPC's topic at gamebanshee's site and realised that reporting back the Mordino's / Salvatore's / Bishop's quest is a waste of xp (and NPC heh).

SPOILERS!!

Well... I've been wondering (a bit offtopic) about the fallout1's history. I remember that if you don't clean the radscorpion's caves, Shady Sands dies at the end of the game. But how can it die if it just show up as the largest city of the whole game (and maybe the whole California!)??

Also you may or may not rescue Tandy from the raiders (fallout1), and I suppose if you do not, there are 99.9% of chance of a painful death to her! (since Aradesh and Ian's crew can't negotiate her release, nor have the enought military power to make an assault on the Khan's outpost!). So she couldn't show up at F2. So one thing's scarin' me now: If that happened at f1 to f2, the possibility to that happen on f2 to f3 is highly enough to worry me.

And to make the things a little bit worse, f2's history end with all the possibilities of the creation of a future trilogy. So maybe Metzger comes back to life just when you burnt him to his bones with your buddy known as flametrower! Or maybe the Marcus starts a new Broken Hills just when you sided with Cabbot! How 'bout Klamath becoming as large as the Hub just when you slaughtered all the living being of it (including that key vomitating dog) just for fun?? If that really happens, the so welcome freedom you have in the game might fade and dissapear, making of f3 a common rpg game..

You didn"t know about Skynet? Skynet is a little robot you can acquire at the Sierra Army Depot, that makes a good sidekick. He uses small arms, and when you give him a gauss rifle, he becomes a rolling tank, which is very cool. I think he maxes out at 10 action points. And he follows instructions.

You need a science skill of 121 to give him the good "brain." I wouldn't bother with him otherwise.

Wrath, i am not exactly sure what you are picking at. Do you think it is STRANGE that Shady Sands gets whiped out if you dont save Tandi? I cant give you a more straight answer, because i didnt understand half of what you wrote. Trilogy of WHAT? Who is Cabbot? Do you expect the FO3 designers to create the game to perfectly suit the way YOU played it? Is it likely that you would wipe Klamath off the world map?

Since there are spoilers already I don't think I need to tell the unwary to avert their eyes.

I always went with family Wright, they're just nice guys all round and have (to my liking) the best ending for the game and New Reno. Additionally it's easily possible to get Made Man and all the money from the families, just as soon as one becomes "Made" start a war with the family. Wright is also the only family where one looses karma for killing, where the rest give a bonus to karma.

Becoming a slaver is also a huge amount of fun, it's just a shame it's at the cost of a huge amount of quests and areas. I've only ever become a slaver once and I've never bothered again.

~

Stories and sequals are always tough senarios. The sequal would just follow what the producer thought the best and most interesting. In fallout 1, as far as the story goes, both Ian and Dogmeat die even though most people would go to pains to keep them alive.

I'm quite amazed as to how different and amazing the story actually unfolded in Fallout 1 as to how I played it, I rather like their scenario even if everything didn't work out as best as I'd want it.

~

What kind of person kills those poor people in Klamath anyway?!?

To Sparrow: I've read 'bout Skynet on gamebanshee's site... now I know about him. Still, I have never picked him up. (yeah it has many action points, and it's HP progression is really tough!)

To Deadalready: Seems you're the only one who got what I said.. :D

To Wozaii: I'll try to make myself clear: In my previous reply I was refering to Fallout1 (as always :D ). I was trying to say that you can have many 'game's endings'.

For instance you can 'choose' if Shady Sands will die or live (by cleaning out the radscorpion's caves or not!). But even if you choose to let Shady Sands to it's destiny, the city will exist in Fallout2.

So you can't choose what will happen to all cities, since don't matter what happen to them in the 'game's ending'. (You with me so far?). And to explain all that I used many examples, like Tandy's: In Fallout1 you can save her, or let her to die. But even if let her to die, she will exist in Fallout2. So I was wondering about Fallout3, because if all of that happened in Fallout1 and 2, it will surely happen in Fallout3. (You got what I said?)

But of course I can't expect nothing more, because this kind of stuff is a tough work to the developers of the game... it's just my thoughts anyway..

(only a rookie would kill Klamath :S )

What i meant was, that i really can't quite figure out what you are looking for, or what point you are trying to make, when you ask a question like this.
I remember that if you don't clean the radscorpion's caves, Shady Sands dies at the end of the game. But how can it die if it just show up as the largest city of the whole game (and maybe the whole California!).
Thats what i mean when i ask if you are blaming the game designers, for not guessing just what way everybody played the game. I dont understand! Dont you realise that NCR is in the game, simply because the game designers DECIDED that The Vault Dweller saved Shady Sands?

Also
if that happened at f1 to f2, the possibility to that happen on f2 to f3 is highly enough to worry me.
Now. I interpretate that as you being worried that the same thing is going to happen in FO3, and i still dont understand what you are trying to say. Does it annoy you that it tells you about all the bad things that it did, and in FO2 they say that you did good things instead?

And all in all, i simply cant see any system in what you are writing.
And to make the things a little bit worse, f2's history end with all the possibilities of the creation of a future trilogy. So maybe Metzger comes back to life just when you burnt him to his bones with your buddy known as flametrower!
What??
Or maybe the Marcus starts a new Broken Hills just when you sided with Cabbot!
Cabbot??

...

I simply cant understand what you are saying Wrath. I am sorry if it is me thats just got in on the wrong track, but you dont have to speak to me like i was born yesterday  .

oh well... don't bother to what I said before... I've just started thinking about that while I was posting a new reply to this topic. I just don't like the programmers 'unmake something you've done in a previous game. Of course there's no choice, but I don't like it anyway.

And sorry if I made you angry.. I didn't intend to..

It's possible to do each quest from every family in one game. The trick is not to accept Made Mad -proposion berfore you have done quests. Also IIRC there is slight matter of the order, since one or two quest may make one or more families angry... but can't remember more of those. After you have finished each quest, you can freely select which family you want to join.

Note though, that declining the made man status, will get most of the families pretty riled up against you... And turn hostile.

When done right it's possible to become made man for all the families at one point or another (though not more than two at any one time). It's a good idea to become a made man since turning it down will cause the family to instantly go hostile and it's merely wasting free experience points and gold.

After becoming a made man simply kill the family to reset the characters status to normal (non made man).

I did this and in the process eliminated all the families but the Wrights, but I don't remember in which order.

Not necessarily... if you wipe out a mob family, your karma raises cuz, you know, they're like... eeevil :D

I dunno if that's the same case with the Wrights cuz when I went berserk on them, I killed the kids as well, so I guess it's a bad thing for your karma...

...yet again, it's a good thing if your character's level is high enough to survive the bounty hunters and other good things that being a complete SOB brings
