Desperate for how to fish directions

Post by Old-droid »

The 1st time I got out my rod, I was given instructions on what to do, but I forgot. I couldn't catch the fish, so re-loaded to before buying the rod, and what do you know,,, the game refused to give me the instructions again. Now I'm standing around with my face hanging out. Is there another step to take after it says,, quick, you're fish is about to get away, and you've reeled it in to the end of the line. ?????
Are there any gurus out there ??

Well, you might be suffering from the same problems I have had. In that case you are unable to fish and unable to finish the game. Se my post, now dated 02-01-2006. Since no one seems to be able to help, I am about to give up the hole game

I'm not sure what your talking about but....

to fish, all you have to do is tap the "a" button fast so that the fish icon on the top right corner goes all the way to the left. when the fish or item tries to get a way and your controller vibrates, then stop pressing a or else the line will snap. Eventually it will stop struggling and you can continue pressing a until you get the fish or item

hope that helped

I don't know what the "a" button is, I am using the left mouse button as I am supposed to. And I have tried over and over again, and nothing seems to work. From what I understand fishing should not be that difficult. But the fish allways gets away, and so the story ends on Lichfield graveyard.

I see people are asking for save games. Is it possible to install somebody elses game in my game, who perhaps is able to fish, or has finished the graveyard? If so, remember I'm an old lady, and was more than full grown when the PC really startet to conquer the word. With others word, if it is possible, I have to learn how!!

He means the "a" button on the XBOX.
I haven't played it on PC but I have some advice.

Try clicking on different things on the screen when fishing, maybe you have to click something rapidly to catch the fish.

Well my only hint is to watch teh bar at teh top right hand side of the screen. When it says reel, do it, when the thing starts turning red stop or else you will snap the line.

Maybe people could be more descriptive about what isn't working. If you're playing on the PC, then you should rapidly click the left mouse button to move the status bar to the left. Every so often the fish will pull on the line, moving the status bar to the right. If you try to reel in the fish while it is pulling, then you'll add strain to the line (the status bar will change color towards red), and if you add too much strain then the line will break. And so fishing is a mini-game where you have to give and take until you win.

Well, the bar is green, sometimes there's a slight colourchange towards red. It has never turned really red. And the line snaps on the same place everytime. It snaps when the fish is bearly visible in the right corner. It differs whether I get one or two warnings that the fish is about to get away. I start reeling in the fish, but from then on the game reels in the fish (and loose it) without me needing to use the mouse. Whether I use the mouse or not does not seem to be of any difference.

That is as accurate as I can describe the problem. I do of cource understand that it is a minigame, but it should be possible to feel that you are doing some effect on the way tings are working.

As I do not have Fable on the PC, I can't really help much. I have both Fable and TLC on Xbox though. When you said that you reloaded the game to before you bought the rod, do you mean before you purchased it from a store, or before the Fisherman offered to teach you to fish for saving him from the wasps? If it was before buying the rod from the store, then just simply go to Gratewood Entrance, and go to Fishers' Creek, and kill the wasps, then he will teach you to fish. Hope i helped :D

Don't tell me, I bought a game that only works on xbox. To Sunniva, yeh, I'm old too. I just love RPG's. and we could be a carbon copy of what we've tried to do, to fix the problem. To Berethor, I can't click anything on the screen because the cursor doesn't work while I'm in what seems to be a mini scene. Not that I haven't tried pressing every key. Trust microsoft to make things problematic. I'm at Famous level and about to go find the archeologist, but I never talked to a guy at Fisher Creek, I don't know who (he) is though. so I'm going to start over and give Direwolf's advice a try. As I said, I'm old. I've got lots of time. (but little patience for badly made games)

I went to Fisher Creek and learned how to fish. But I think I bought a fishingpole in Bowerstone and started fishing before I had actually learned how to fish. Perhaps this is a question of who came first, the hen or the egg?? If you succeed, please keep us noticed.

Is there anyone else out there that plays this stupid game on PC, and can fish. I just re-installed the whole game again and did NO fishing or buying of poles until I got to Fisher Creek, and I'm a teenager with no strength again. I got the instructions and even wrote them down. Followed them exactly, and still NO fish. The line never goes red and I never see a fish in the left corner of the bar.I spent day into nite trying. To "Never Play Alon" , I have to at least catch a fish, to be able to win 3rd place in a competition. Do you play on PC ? and where is the competition held ? Not that I'll catch anything,,,, I know, that's defeatist, but I'm getting close to it anyway. I've played 11 RPG's in a year, and everything up til now, has been overcome. Even all the bugs in Dungeon Siege 2.... Is there someone to ask, about a patch for this and address it to PC players ? I'm NOT moving to xbox and an A button, just for this.

OK, I'll try to describe fishing on the PC in as much detail as I can (so bear with me here) and you can let us know what part isn't working for you. I'm doing this from work, so it might not be absolutely exact.

The first thing to check is to make sure you haven't reassigned the mouse button to something else. I don't have my game here so I can't check which control might have been changed, but just look through the controls to make sure you haven't changed your fishing button to another mouse/keyboard button.

  1. You go near a ripple in the water and your F1 quick slot changes to the fighing hook. - Press F1 to activate the fishing screen.
  2. After a short pause you will hear a reel sound but no visual changes.
  3. After another second or two of the reel sound you will see a fish icon appear and the words "Reel in". - Press the left mouse button once.
  4. A fish will appear on the line, the reel sound will continue for another second or two and the fish will slowly move to the right.
  5. The reel sound will stop and the fish will stop moving. - Begin pressing the left mouse button quickly. Push it as quickly as you can, don't just hold it down or click it once.
  6. As you press the left mouse button, with each click the fish should slowly move to the left.
  7. If you hear the reel sound again stop pressing the left mouse button. The fish will move back to the right slowly as long as the reel is sounding.
  8. Once the reel sound stops, start pressing the left mouse button again.
  9. Continue this until you get the fish all the way to the left and you get the "You've caught something" message.

Comments:
  1. Click the left mouse button as quickly as possible. If you click slowly you will have a very hard time getting a fish/treasure.
  2. If you press the left mouse button while the reel is sounding, you are trying to pull the fish in while he is struggling and it will add strain to the line. No strain means the line color will be green. High strain means the color of the line will be red. If you continue clicking the mouse button it will break the line and you will have to start over. You usually have 1-2 clicks (in case you don't react quick enough to stop clicking the button) before the line breaks.
  3. I've never had a fish get all the way to the right, so I don't know what message you get for that.
  4. After you save the fisherman and get the ripples in that area the fisherman tells you about the fishing competition. You have to leave the area then come back and you can enter the competition. Obviously we need to fix your fishing problems before that is even an option.

I hope this helps, or at least gives you more information about what should work so you can give us more feedback.

Not to worry, Old-droid. I'm 50 and female and I got it. At first I thought we were supposed to move the fishing bar toward the right. Of course the fish got away every time.

When you find a fishing spot, get your pole out and "use" it. That will take you to the fishing scene. The hook is at the top left of the bar, but don't try to click on the screen. You'll be using the left mouse button but don't expect to see a cursor on your screen. Your mouse button is just the fishing reel, so imagine your clicks as reeling the fish in.

Darzog's instructions are great unless you have the arrow configuration for your settings, like I do. If you do too, just ignore the F1 instructions at the beginning. Otherwise, do as he says when you hear the sound, and when the sound stops, click the left mouse button fast (don't hold it down) until you hear the fish pulling again, and then stop clicking before the bar shows red. Repeat over and over. You're trying to move the fish toward the left to unite the fish with the hook.Seems counter-intuitive to me, but hey.
Good luck!

Thank's - that made my day!!! I guess that made it for Old-droid too since we seemed to have the same problem (which perhaps was lack of attention due to old age?). And now I'm off to pick up the last piece of Nostros armor and head into the adventure again!! Thank's ever so much :D

First of all, Darzog needs to be put into the hall of fame ! Second, I caught the dumb mushroom ! I may be close to 60, but, if the instructions say to press left mouse, then that's what you do. (you'd think ?) They don't say when and where, or, I may be too exact with life. Guess what everyone,,,, I'm goin fishin !!!!

Thanks Darzog,

Your instructions helped much more than the instruction manual. Now I'm able to fish.

the trick

i sucked at fishing until i realized that the reason i was clicking on the left mouse was to move the fish TO THE LEFT, not the right. I was helping the fish move right!

now i fish mucha betta!
