Poll: Gloomfrost weapons

Post by Gruntboy »

Which do you prefer? I realise it depends on choice and playing style but they have some unique abilities.

I tend to go for the Kiss of the Gloomfrost b/c so many of my characters have longsword proficiencies (due to the plethora of longswords in IWD).

Tested some of these out the other day.

The Halberd only does "cone of cold" to the target - how weak is that? I think I'd take 3% chance of cone of cold over 5% of 2-12 cold damage (long sword) anyway but surely cone of cold is area effect?

I presume the suffocate effect of the 2-handed sword is limited to the target too? :(

Personally i like the two handed sword +4, that is a pretty good weapon. It would be a better sword if it was one handed. Haven't tried the others yet.

You can also pick Frostbrand up from the gnome, that must be one of the most traveled weapons ever :D

I liked the dagger, Fang of the Gloomfrost?, just for the anti-magic shell ability. I kept it as a secondary weapon for my main tank, and never fought with it, but used the ability every-so-often. I was not really impressed with most of the gloomfrost weapons at that point in the game, especially with the rarity that their effects occurred. They did add atmosphere, though, and I found myself using them for sentimental reasons. I had a hand in this item's creation!

My second choice would be the Kiss, just because the longsword was so commonly used by my characters.

IIRC, Frostbrand-type weapons are "ordinary" magical weapons, not unique...

I liked the mace (fist of the gloomfrost) the most. My fighter/cleric was doing a ton of damage with it (extra 1 to 10 bludgeoning damage, very good against opponents that have no resistances against crushing attacks) even if the chance is only 5 percent.

I also went for the two-handed sword, and I like it very much. I haven't tried any of the others though, but the halberd didn't sound too good.
