Heart Of Fury - Spoilers

Post by Mr Sleep »

Having just finished the whole thing IWD/HoW/TotL i thought i would have a crack at the much vaunted Heart of Fury. I was really surprised at how much difference it makes, i was using all my spells just to kill a few trolls :o

My questions are:

1) What if any difference does the Difficulty slider make if you switch on the Heart of Fury Mode?

2) What are peoples different experiences when using the Heart of Fury, which is the most difficult battle?

I used Heart of Fury when I first bought HoW. The initial battles on the isle of the damned or whatever were brutal. Those barrow wights were insane. I think all Heart of Fury really does is double the number of HP's for the enemies, they do double damage when hitting, and they probably have thaco and spell bonuses as well. Perhaps even added MR and/or saving throw bonuses. Heart of fury just forces you to be a little more careful, especially early on. At first level (yes, I restarted the game with HoFury), it can be real difficult. Now that I've played BG2 several more times, I'm much better in combat and use many spells I previously never found useful. Almost all spells have a purpose and once you've been through the game a couple of times, it obviously makes preparing a whole lot easier. I've still never played TotL, although if I ever get back to Icewind Dale, I do have it loaded on my machine. Anyway, chew this up and comment. I'll post again later on.

What i actually meant (thanks for the reply anyway though ;) ) was that you switch on Heart Of Fury and you still control the Difficulty slider, does the Heart of Fury Mode override those setting or do they both culminate together to make the nasty bad guys better? In otherwords if i have it on easy and HoF and then change it to Insane with HoF on does that cause it to double the difficulty twice?

I have played IWD to death, just never got around to either Totl or HoW until later on, now i think the game isn't right without them, however it can sometimes be a drag to play through all of it again. I am replaying BG2 at the moment with my brother over LAN, and i just get tired of it :o I hope the same wont happen with IWD.

The slider has no impact. HoF mode overrides it.

The start (level 1 characters?) is darned difficult. That bleedin' wolf kepy getting my whole party. :D
