Instruction Manual : Slightly Peeved

Post by Hill-Shatar »

Well, I finally went and put Baldur's Gate II: SoA on my computer a few days ago, and went to read the instruction manual when, to my great surprise, it was not in the box! Now, I'm not known for my memory, so I might have lost it or something in those four minutes the box was open, so I'm still hunting in the hopes that it fell under the Recliner in the corner.

I'm pretty sure I never received one though... and I went and searched through the forum, and the best I could find is a reference to a file I don't have on my computer in an area of restricted access for the safety of the computer's processes. Also, a link to a site where you can download the manual, but I was wondering if anyone knew if the actual SoA site had a download for it?

Mostly because the game tutorial has so far referred to four things I had no idea existed, or items at the bottom of my screen in little buttons that have confused me so much that I finally gave up on my poor druid and came here for help to find out what the hell they are.

Oh well, if anyone has any ideas on where to find a manual on the internet or could tell me what those menu items at the bottom of the screen mean I would be most appreciative. :D

It should be installed in your BG2 directory. I know it is on mine...

It took a bit of digging, but I actually found it before I came back to this site. My lovely computer was, as usual, trying to thwart me. Thanks for your help, though, Rav. :)

Still, the paper manual should be there too. You paid for it. Go back to the shop and be difficult! ;)

Interplay supplied those as a PDF file, but the links are jammed :(

You should try mailing Interplay, or asking what you need, we'll explain you, Hill, sides we're so addicted nowadays that we remember most things by heart

It depends on what version of baldur's gate you've gotten your hands on, if it's one of the good original boxes (I applaud you if it is) then besides being a really big box, it should come with all the special kit and things inside.

If you've gotten your hands on many of the other versions or re-releases then chances are the manual is supplied virtually as a file or even not at all.

The manual is nice, but the only time I use it is to look at the spells available. Besides being a good reference for spell listings it's majorly out of date and incorrect.

I can most likely get my hands on an instruction manual somehow. Depends on which of my friends I can hit up for it. Anyways, my computer just told me that those files were essential for running the computer, and since there happens to be a nice over ride button in the corner I decided to ignore the warning on go along to find the manual.

It's a mite difficult to read, though. I'd rather have a good hardcopy, where I can change the pages in my hands and wander around with the book. Oh well.

I'm not sure when you bought BG: SoA, but when I last bought it, I received a special CD with the manual on it.

I agree that the manual can be useful on occasion, though I never used it as a noob. I have the old-school massive box-version of the game, so I got the real thing  However, I've ever only used it for intresting errata and miscallenous (or however you spell that :D ) information, such as the descriptions of the NPC's. I've found that it's easier to learn from trial and error than reading endless tesxts...
