Backdoor to Vale of Ruin?

Post by Frodo1 »

I have a question. I've seen this mentioned in passing elsewhere, but how do you get into the Vale of Ruin before doing the Shadow Realm? I got bumped up onto the ridges a bunch in the demo, so I have the general idea of how it’s done. but, how and where specifically can this be done for the vale? Where do I attempt to cross over and what specific details should I know before I attempt it?

Thanks in advance

PS I did a search, but didn’t find anything. Maybe I didn’t try hard enough though.

The Vale of Ruin doesn't have anything to do with the Shadow Ruins. You can go to the Vale pretty much any time you want after completing the Arindale quests.

But anyway, from what I remember, people were somehow climbing the mountains on the northern side. You might need to do some backflips or something.

Edit: I just did a search on "vale climb" and some likely looking threads came up, like this one.

I also thought you had to complete the Shadow Ruins before you could get into the Vale Of Ruin. When I was still running version 1.3, the first time I talked to Staroxia I went immediately to Grymlock, but the option to tell him the magic words to free his memory did not appear, even after I went to him to try again after I completed the Naga Temple, and went to Staroxia a second time. I tried several times, but could not get the Rune Key until I first completed the Shadow Ruins, and went back to Staroxia a third time. However, after I installed 1.4 Ger w/ Eng patch, I was able to get the Rune Key from Grymlock, as soon after I first talked to Staroxia after gaining entrace to the Forbidden Lands.

Going over the mountains is extremely difficult, and not worth the effort...

I don't get it? Please explain. If you mean that we should have to wait to get into the vale, I sort of agree. Having all of your class quests completed by level 16 and before you find your second relic is a bit odd.

But, thanks guys for the info. Golden Warrior was right. I was still under the assumption that you needed to complete the other tasks mentioned before Gymlock would hand over access to the runes. That's funny. Live and learn.

Back door to Vale of Ruin

To get into the Vale of ruin before you get the last key. Make sure you have a Moonstone as once you get in you can't get out without it. Go to the villiage in the trees by the road to lake Lore. aYou will find a log wall running up to the mountains follow this south on the east side of the wall until you get to the mountains. Follow the range keeping the mountains on your right, You will go around in short order into a culdesac. You should find a fire. go north then west from the fire. You should find a place where the mountains are climbable. Go a little west, South a ways the a little east then south some more. you should be able to see into the Vale of Ruin. Using this tequniqe I have gone into the trial of elders as a Deathlord with light dual weapons it makes life a whole lot easier.
