Jammed Locks?

Post by dlowrey »

I always save before picking locks, but is there a way to open containers that have jammed locks?

I think you mean doors, since containers don't jam. I always bash doors because my experience is that failing that does not lead to jamming. I haven't tried this, but you might try bashing a jammed lock. I don't think that will work, but anyway, yo might try that.

How does bashing work? I've tried bashing chests that I can't open but bashing has never worked. It says "Go" and then there is some fire and damage to the character and the chest is still locked. Are there skills that need to be developed? Is there something I am suppose to do when it says "Go"?

Thanks.

The CE has a bunch of containers that are locked without traps. The "pick locks" skill is much more useful in the CE.

As far as I know, once a lock is jammed, there isn't any way to open the container / door.

The bash skill depends on your strength. I think you just click the button and watch, but that's always seemed boring to me, so I always develop my thief skills.

Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

In CE, containers CAN jam. The one in the House of the Dragon in Fargrove jams if I screw up the lockpicking. The same goes for the two cabinets in the Temple...

I stand corrected. I haven't been able to buy a copy of the CE yet. It's still not available in my area.

To use bash effectively, at least in 1.4, you need to have your strength high enough. By level 70 you will be able to open any chest. A level 35 of strength will open the lowest level chests. When you try to bash you will notice that the percentage for success changes to reflect your new actions chances. Also, I have found that the damage from traps becomes quite incidental as you build your character. It certainly hurts at low character levels though. Make sure you have enough life before bashing.

I think it would be a great test to see if bashing with enough strength prevents lock jamming in the CE. This would seem to be logical since you are bashing the chest and not opening the lock.I'll do this myself eventually, but for now I'll just sit back enviously.

SW: yes it can be boring, but I find it far less boring than opening low-level chests when I have a high level in disarm. That is worse than watching paint dry. ;)
