Looking to next run
Looking to next run
Well, with the majority of BG2 behid me, I am looking forward to my next runthrough. I am looking to make the next run with a 4 person party until I get Imoen...making it 5 for the hard parts. I am looking at this:
Fighter/Thief (half-orc) as main
cleric ?
mage ?
tank ?
Any suggestions? I am wanting banter as well as a bit of power...Mostly banter. And I hate Haer'Dalis!

One comment I'd make is, as I'm sure you've noticed, combat in BG2 is all about protection spells. If you intend to have only one cleric, this could be a problem. Having these spells is what makes Anomen, Jahera, and Aerie so valuable. I use all three. But I suggest having another cleric.
I agree with you on Haer' Dalis, I let him hang out in the tavern.

How about you tell us a bit more about your intentions with the party.
What alignment do you want to play? Do you want your mage and cleric combat orientated, defensive, offensive or simply as casters slinging their spells from a safe distance. Do you want to use Mod's?
Do you want your NPC's to be loyal servants (like Minsc) or more individual and free-spirited (like Edwin)?
A bit more details are required before we start making random suggestions.

We have an excellent list of available mod sites and mods in one of our sticky threads.
Or you could just go to the Pocket Plane Group, where many BG2 mods made both by themselves and others have been linked.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
For both good banters & class balance:
Villiany: Korgan, Viconia, Edwin (as boo's daddy indicated above).
Heroic: Keldorn, Anomen, Aerie.
Punchy, Grumpy, & Doc: Minsc, Jaheira, & Jan.
Romances abound, all tough with Imoen the Wizard, and add You-Know-Who in ToB. Rock and Roll.
Who do you have now in your first-run group, P?

Right now I am running all self-created characters plus Imoen. I am looking for some banter. I ran with other characters to do their quests and ended up staying with Cernd until I got Imoen.
I have:
fighter-mage dual as PC
cleric
berserker
fighter (spec. with bow & 2 hand-sword)
fighter-thief multi
Imoen
I was running a Paladin until I screwed it all up
. I plan on being some sort of good but I want funny dialog and I know certain characters work great together for banter. Right now I am powergaming but next run I want more tricky sort of play but still have enough arse to get out of sticky situations.

I finished the entire BG series last year for the first time, and I too have a “next run” planned out. I’ve done forum searches and browsed an NPC interaction guide to help determine interesting NPC combinations. Any combination of NPCs can get through the game imo… might as well have a group that’ll chat it up the most.
Some observations:
Mazzy & Korgan are interesting together, even with the extreme alignment difference.
Anomen & Keldorn too, especially when Anomen has his ‘issues’.
Jan & everybody, that dude is a trip.
Edwin & everybody, especially when he finds a certain scroll.
Aerie, Jaheira, & Viconia will hit on you, if you don’t act like a punk, and are the correct gender & race.
(Actually, I think Viconia digs punks, too.)
Anomen will hit on you, if you’re a chick.
Aerie & Hear’Dalis are very interesting together, especially if you hit on Aerie.
I had bug issues with the Jaheira romance. I had to use CLAU console commands to bring its conclusion. But if I had installed that Baldurdash.org unofficial patch, I think it would have been ok.
At any rate, everybody talks with everybody, so it’s all good.
