i think it'll get close but i'm thinkin it's gotten hyped abit much lately. the community wil certainly be there but it wont be all that large and i'm thinkin it'll end up as an easier way to connect with friends. i mean cheatin friends u can go over and clobber in real life, but some punk from nowhere kicking the crap out of u, looting u, and leaving u for the gargoyles is quite another
How BIG can it get?

check it out... the biggest online thing rite now is probably CS(counter-strike). that's owing to it's huge community and the ease with which servers can be built. anyone else feel that the NWN project is just TOO overwhelmin?? i mean... unless ur the most die hard of fans (which i am) u wont bother with it all that much. and cheatin will be rampant. wud good is 60 players in a server when 5 are cheatin gods? so.. how HUGE can this get? will it reach the hights of Everquest? will it be proclaimed as one of the greatest mplayer games ever?

The actual game world can be huge. They have introduced a technology into the game where computers can link up to one and another and create portals to other towns and cities etc.
I think the support will be massive. Bioware made the return of RPGS in BG1 and Black Isle continued the success with BG2. I defiitely think that at first a few people will play and then the rumours will spread that this game is amazing, play it etc.
Another + point is scripting that can be done. I'm currently doing a course on it and the program used is pretty ease to get to know to be honest.

It can be as big as you will want...
Check my signature.
I alrealy plan 2 modules and a city sample for modules.
There is already a great number of fans that are planing modules and even create worlds of their own.
You could not be afraid of super character since NWN official valt does not alow hacked characters, only ones that can be make using the "legit" way.
Besides DM will have the option of letting players enter or not and look at their stats prior to enter.
This is not Everquest since this will not (at this moment there are no plans) official servers from Bioware, only the valt.
But some are planing on create worlds that will change acording to players actions (dont expect 24/7 since servers will have to be taken down for that but even with that it can be made).
Also its free to play online.

Drak you know if you ever need any help i am willing to help out.
Plus i think it will be a pretty big thing, as BG1 and BG2 have been very popular!
Also people would building different parts of the realms.
Thus the possibilities are immense!

The possibilities are immense. Could you imagine this:
A group of adventurers form in Neverwinter, led by a Bhallspawn, famous for thwarting the plans of Sarevok and Irenicus travel south to Baldurs Gate and Athkatla. They meet former comrades on the way and continue to travel.
We could introduce old/new NPC's you could also rebuild old areas. The possibilites are immense!

Its a convertion (like Shadow Dale low level module) from a AD&D 2nd edition module and its passed mostly in Rashmare and Thay (at least the important parts will be).
Its aimed was a 15+ level party module in 2nd and it was actually 2 modules.
It is 2 partys.
One is stoping the invasion of Rashmare by a army of gem golems.
The other is stoping the zulkin of necromany from binding a powerful demon using the throne of chaos but this module will be heavy revised my me since it was simply "mage tunnel" to Thay, enter the fortless were the Throne is and make your way to the Throne, find a way to stop the last twin burning ritual, that requires a high level character, in the module case a female mage the is The Sibul friend and I dont plan to change that.
I will change that in order to give more options on the city were the fortless is located since it a simple task of using a password to enter the fortless, I will make entering the Fortless a little more dificult.
So you will end up fighting two Zulkins (the high red wizards responsibe for one school of magic).
I will give a shoot at making all this and I apreciate the offers of help since I will likely need it.

ahh.. yes.. but u've all missed my one major point! (btw: i realized my mistake bout the chraracters being hacked as soon as i reread it)
the point i was tryin to get across is... it seems just TOO complex for the average Johnny Jr. i dunno.. but my take on it is that it just mite be abit bogglin.. there arent that many die hard ad&d fans out there, even less willin to dedicate their server to being a realm for ppl to traverse in.
i love the concept of the game and i like the game, but i'm just sayin be prepared cuz some ppl mite not like wut they'll find in the near future. there's always that risk that it becomes a bust. (u never know.. not likely tho) [mystra... dont i sound like the harbinger of doom] it'd be super if the community turned out to be huge. FREE MMORPG!!! =) you guys ever realize that? u hook up 3-4 servers, make them dedicated.. dont change a damn thing and just let it run. it'd be mini-EQ.=) one of the reasons y i like the game so much, but u gotta admit... it's gonna be hard to come by. i find it bogglin how much u can do with the stuff, becuz i read one of those chats where ppl ask the ppl makin the game questions and it seems ALOT of the minor nuances will be in and i just hope not to be left out in the cold and shaking my head in frustration at trying to make it all work.

Nippy,
I have been going through those scripting courses as well (when time allows!). I agree that it won't be difficult to create some massive realms. And Saint, I think there are more D&D'ers out there than you realize. There are many that haven't yet bought into the CRPG games yet as well, that may find NWN more to their liking.

"Think on this, arrogant mageling: even the mightiest archmage has no spells strong enough to let him cheat death. Some take the road of lichdom... a living death. The rest of us find graves, and our dust is no grander than that of the next man. So when next you lord it over some farmer with your fireballs, remember: we all master spells enough to die"

Nippy,
I got started late, and am only through I think the first two or three. Not hard yet. But, I am playing catch-up. I have a little programming in my background, not much, but enough to understand what they are talking about.

Friends tell me I am an IT God... I tend not to believe them, but I let them say it anyways!
Never really did a lot of programming, but VB and Javascript isn't too hard and that's mostly what I've dabbled with, along with some HTML. Nothing earth shattering, just the basics.

It have been sayed by BioWare staff himself that we can make a module in 5 minutes, without any experiance in coding, scripting...
The tools are to be real easy, everyone will be able to build a module.
Waterdeep is more dificult since I will be following WotC city maps to be as close as the Waterdeep of AD&D as possible and I am talking about a city that have more that one million people living in it.
I hope that people will be able to make modules based on Waterdeep witout having to create all the city itself.
Making the modules is not the biggest problem since its to be very easy to do one.
The problem is making the modules rich and balanced for the people have fun playing one.
That means, thinking ahead of what players can try and how to deal with possible loop holes in the story that can disrupt the storyline or give players very powerful items when they are not suposed to do just yet.
I am not taking the scripting course since the actual NwN scripting is not yet avaible.
That course is a simply C++ course to help people to script in NwN and actual NwN scrip lessons will only happen in lesson 12.
My first consideration will be the story and make sure that it does not have loop holes or some impossible fights that are not supposed to happen.
