Hex help for a gas mask

Post by McB »

I'm just about ready to enter the sewers in CE and I would really appreciate that gas mask you get later on in the game. Would anyone please help me. I have never used the Hex editor (although I have two programs on my desktop). I have read most of the messages in the forum on Hex help but I just don't get it!

You need specifically 2 exact savegames (one is a backup in case you mess up), the item list and HEdit posted by InDoMiNaE.

Then you open you save game and search (in the search function there is a Hex seaech and a Text search.
In the Text serch you type your charaters name, there are a total of about 5 locations, you want the last one at the bottom of the page.

You will need to use a current item like a heal potion to create the gasmask, easiest way.
So you need to look up the Hex numbers for Heal potion and Gas mask.
Then in your game if you have 5 heal potions drop 4 and make you 2 save games at this point.

Then with the search function this time type the code for the Heal potion at the last location of your name, as mentioned above.
Once you get to the Heal potion change the Heal potion Hex number to the Gas Mask Hex number and save.
Trust me, most of the names I have been called you can't translate in any language...they're not even real words as much as a succession of violent images.

Well, I'll be damn...it worked (sort of). I got the gas mask in my inventory but it's 98% dammaged. I tried to increase my repair attribute the normal way, but I could only repair 6%...any ideas?

Thanks for your response, it really made sense to me!

I solved my own problem

I solved the gas mask at 98% dammaged but I wouldn't recommend it. I just had to repair it a little bit at a time and rest at the campfire in-between repairs. Thanks for all your help...I can at least attempt the hex editor now.

NP :)

I did not know the damage parameters, but after the code you see about 8 pairs of zeros in those 8 pairs are the damage and fully reapired status.
So if the Gas Mask is normally 300/300 since we/I did not know we couldnt put it in there, it really wont go down, if I recall.
Example you could go back in your save game now and look up Gas Mask and see the status you repair it to or alter it.

Good luck.
