Exploits To Beef Up Character--How Far To Carry??

Post by Evenstar »

Okay, Arwen Evenstar is in Trials of the Ancient Elders at The Walkway Trial. I am really beefing up the character here. I have played out everything up to this point except for killing my first Fire Drake--I've been ignoring them. Here in this trial though I have taken my character from Level 9 to Level 11 and have all the Stats to 32+ and I'm taking _all_ the skills to 6.

What I'd like to know is what is practical as to how far to carry this? I'd like a strong enough character to do a reasonable battle with a Fire Drake--and win. There may or may not be many more opportunities like this to really milk an exploit so I don't want to miss the advantage I think I can glean from this one.

My character so far is a level 11 Adept Fighter Celestial Valkyrie. There isn't a chance I will play DLCE again so I have to do the best with what I've got.

What are your recommendations and thoughts on this as to where I might stop with this exploit and if I really should stop building up stats and skills all equal or should focus from this point on on key stats and skills (which would be what?).

Thanks.

PS Is this going to be your last character because you will be starting Oblivion around this time next month?

PS I see in another post that you are going ahead with using the Winged Destroyer, I really recommend that you try heavy weapons like the giant axe and especially the Great Crusher Mace that the minotaurs sometimes drop. You'll do a heck of a lot more damage and take a lot less too.

I hope I understand this question correctly. I wouldn't really call the experience gain you get in the Elder Trials area an exploit. In fact, throughout the game you will have the opportunity to boost your stats up by huge levels. So, if this is your last character then just play away and level as much as you can. Level 11 is fine for this area. I waited to level 14 by gaining xp from minotaurs in the arena before I did the trials with my current character, Eledwyn, also a Figher/Adept/Celestial/Valkyrie. I'm currently at level 18 and about to move into the Forbidden Lands.

BTW It sounds like you are pumping points into every skill. You can certainly do that, but it is not the most efficient way to build a character.

I may be using the term "exploit" incorrectly and/or it may be that the developer left these "beef-up areas" in the game on purpose when they discovered (or were told by their beta-testing gamers) how unbalanced some of the battles and monsters were.

I think it is an exploit also because I didn't know where to stop. I finally did stop at level 14 with all the Skills at 7. If there were a cap of some sort for this particular room of hack and slash then I would agree that it was all planned.

Also, how could I focus on raising only certain skills? What ones? And besides that you can't increase some skills like heavy weapons, armor, and shields unless you bring light and moderate along with them.

I'm not really complaing...I'm just glad I realized and took the opportunity when I found it and wonder if I missed doing this elsewhere earlier on? It isn't like the game would let you go back outside once you entered the sewers at the stort or would let you go back into the Trials of the Elders once you finished an area there. I might have so easily somehow managed to finish the Trials as weak as I was and then lost the chance.

Some people like to restore and play sections or the entire game over and over again. I don't. I go one time through as best I can and move on. There isn't enough time to play all the games on my list as it is and Oblivion is coming. :D

DO NOT have vitality more than 22 to 25 because your life can actually become too high. Once life approaches 100 or beyond, opponents become stronger and more resistant. This is a weak point in the game engine rules.

As a matter of fact, any race or class can have any ability or skill, by hex editing, and your level can go into the hundreds!

I knew you could change or add an item using hex codes, but where is the list that would help me to add a skill or increase an ability?

Very interested.

Wow. I've often seen posters answer someone in this way and I've always thought to myself; "yeah, why don't they just read the sticky!".

Anyway, I have already downloaded the word document and have it on my desktop (thank you, thank you, thank you!). I've used it only sparingly to increase heal/cure potions, but I'm still clueless as to what hex codes=attributes.

So-so sorry for being dense.
