Bloodmoon - Hircine's hunt - spoilers

Post by Coot »

I'm stuck in the Outer Ring in Hircine's game, sort of. I can get to the exit to the Inner ring on my own by sneaking, but I've lost captain Carius with every attempt. The guy has 600 hit points and he has impressive skills and weapons but the werewoofs still tear him to pieces. They're a rough bunch, much more powerful than the ones I've encountered before.

I guess it's not really necessary to keep Carius alive, but I'm sure there must be a way. It could be that my character isn't too tough - as a matter of fact I know she isn't - but I've a feeling it wouldn't help much if she was.
Although my character isn't a great mage either I tried spells: calming or demoralizing the werewoofs, creating summons, but none of it seemed to help.
I also use the Dracandos voice mod so I ordered Carius to levitate with me to avoid being eaten, but he wouldn't fly high enough

Are there any people who kept Carius alive? If so, how did you do it?

I did it with a level 36 redguard with out a problem. It was a fighter with the Mace of Aevar Stone slinger and Semi-full Daedric. I believe I went to the gate first (not on purpose) and left him there. I went back for the key then. :D

It's been a while though, so Im a bit fuzzy.

I'm a level 31 Meadow Fae with highly developed sneak, security and speechcraft skills so hacking may way through isn't exactly an option.

Well, it's quite an example one wasn't followed MW spirit. You're just meant to be more or less universal, at least to finish main quests.
I usually had a sneak with certain magical background and good weapon skill (developed) as well. Had no problems with that particular quest.
In the first place the Critical Hits could hardly be overrated if you were a sneak.
Then, do not forget to heal your companion, the Captain in this case, after any encounter.
If you was able to give him some Sanctuary or/and Chameleon in advance, even better.
I do not remember if you could say him "Stay here" and pick him up latter, though. However, if you had got BoBS, it's not too hard to run away from him, at least i managed usually to keep him out of the trouble. However, i felt myself strong enough to live wihtout his help, it seems to be not your case.

QUOTE=Loredweller]However, i felt myself strong enough to live wihtout his help, it seems to be not your case.[/QUOTE]I could've manage without him - better, in fact, because I could sneak past the werewolves without any chopping or slashing.

@=[HC]=Sv.Trojan: I plan to use a healthy combination of sneaking and sniping in Hircine's and Karstaags case.

In any case, Loredwellers comment about the Boots of Blinding Speed got me thinking. I didn't have the boots but there had to be another way to leave him behind. It occured to me that if I could maneuver Carius in a place where he would get stuck I could get to the portal on my own, without turning the good captain into chopped liver. After all, all those slaves I freed always had a hard time following me. It's one of MW's notorious flaws.
I levitated and ordered him to do the same. I flew into some hard-to-get-out-of-places in the maze and sure enough, he got stuck very quickly. I sneaked to the portal, he delivered his speech about getting out of there himself and that was that.

Thanks. :)
