Release date

Post by Classic »

Quote from Neverwinter Vault:

"Q:[Dave Lister] Are special effects like flames etc going to be addable to monster/Character models (This would allow creation of creatues like Flame Cats and also Burning NPCs in ravaged towns etc.)
A:[Marc Holmes] um..flaming creatures....well we are not allowing you to put flames on your creatures in the toolset - effects are costly so we don't want too many flaming things on the screen at one time - plus and more importantly, the particle system for the game is quite complex. I will take the fifth on that for now, ask us again in six months how we will do this...."

Ouch! Six months!! I don´t he means this litteraly! The date of this discussion is 23.08.01, which would make release date sometime AFTER 23 of february 2002!

The date he mentions of "six months" is IMO/AFAIK not to be taken as an exact date.
It is just said as an date after wich he could answer the question.
This discussion has been adressed on other boards.

The expected date from the gaming community is still between December '01 to spring '02.
But only the developers know. :)

And if they delay the game even furthur. Good for them, that means that they'll have more time to focus on improving the existing game. As long as it's a short delay however.

NWN should be playtested much more thoroughly than the BG series ever was. Lack of class balance in a mostly single player game isn't really much of an issue, but in a game like NWN where PvP will be common, it is.

Besides, the need for synchronization will be greater. There shouldn't be too many patches, and it will probably be more difficult to use third party fixes (such as the excellent work from Baldurdash).

I hope they really take all the time they need...

True, it would be nice if they could get it flawless from the start! However, they really shouldn´t commit themselves on a release date (although it´s only been a guess from their side) that they could obviously not honor without sacrifice on the gameside!

Think of the hearts of all the little kiddies (and not so kiddies!) that are breaking all over the world, sob!! :(

I just hope they plan to work around the clock ´cause I just CAN´T WAIT!!
