I have just got this game. I have not been able to load it and I get an error message which says unable to set mode. Does anyone know what this means?

Well did you upgrade to Offical 1.2?
http://www.gamebanshee.com/vampireblood ... nloads.php

Also are you using one of the Unoffical Patches?
http://www.3ddownloads.com/RPG/Vampire: ... bup21a.zip

Are you system drivers up to date, ie Mother board (if VIA), Video and Sound drivers?

If you are not sure, please post you system info and I/we can try to direct you. :)

I see now you said cant load, not sure if that means cant Install or cant Start the game?
Trust me, most of the names I have been called you can't translate in any language...they're not even real words as much as a succession of violent images.

I can't start the game.

I am not sure what you mean by system info. Where would I find that?

What do you do with those links? Sorry I am very very ignorant about this stuff. Do you just click on it?

By system info, he probably means your CPU speed, memory, and video card info. Depending upon your Windows flavor or the hard disk utilities you have, there should be some method of easily acquiring that information and passing it along.

I'm going to move this thread to Tech Support, but leave a redirect, here. That should get you a few more replies.

Thanks, Fable

It says I have:
Pentium 4 CPU 4 2.66GHz

512 MB of Ram.

Is that enough?. I got a new graphics card recently so it should be alright. The man said it had 120 something (can't remember what) and he said that was a good thing.

From what you say about your video card, it should be 128 Mb memory Video card.
I ran the game on a lap top with similar specs, so that shouldn't be the problem.

Did you install the 1.2 patch?

And also can you explain exactly how far you get and what happens (+ text of any error messages)?

You might want to make sure you have the lastest video drivers for your card. Go to the card maker's website, and download the correct drivers. Install them, but do a backup, first. Reboot, and see if that helps.

@Lestat. I have not installed the patch because I do not know what it is or how to do it. Do I just click it?

The first few times I tried the thing said

Engine Error

Cannot find mode

The last twice that didn't happen. I got through the getting a character steps, then it put up a screen which said something like the embrace - turning a human into a vampire. Then it just closed down altogether and took me back to my wallpaper. I also got a message which said something like Windows has not got enough virtual memory. It is expanding it but some applications will not be available and a yellow exclamation mark

@ Fable. No I have the right driver. I had an engineer guy out last week to put it in so it should be ok

Adding - autoconfig to the path should actually fix this problem as far as I know.

This is not the only game with this problem.
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.

You need to download the .exe file from the site to which the link leads, copy it to the Vampire directory and then run it (by double clicking on it).

Ok, I think I have downloaded it. How do I "copy it to the vampire directory"? the only option I have is "open" does that do it?

Try opening Windows Explorer, then literally click on the file, and drag it to the Bloodlines directory.

Okey, if the error occuring is unable to set mode do this:

right click on your shortcut at the desktop, click on properties with your left mouse button, you will see - general, shortcut, compatibility on the very top. Go to shortcut.

In the box next to Target there is something written ending with Vampire - Bloodlines\vampire.exe" - there you add -autoconfig so it should be:

......Vampire - Bloodlines\vampire.exe" -autoconfig

(in my case it would be "E:\Games\Activision\Vampire - Bloodlines\vampire.exe" -autoconfig)

Try the game again. It should work, if not there's another solution.

Thank you everybody. :) I have done what I can and I hope I have installed the patch. I could not put -autoconfig on it, because it then said the pathway thing was not valid. But I am going to try it with what I have done.

There needs to be one space between " and -autoconfig. Then it will be fine.

I tried it without the autoconfig thing and it didn't work. I then came back and saw your post, Ashen. So I did that

Now I have a brand new error message. It comes in at the "embrace" screen and it closes me down as before. But now it says

engine error
Failed to lock vetex buffer in CMesh DX8::Lock vetex buffer

And I still get the Windows virtual memory too low message.

Sorry to be such a bother :(

Umm. Okey, I am not entirely sure about that one. I know of people who have had that error but it seems the solution is another matter. Can you check your direct X for me? Start/Run type dxdiag and then tell me the version you have.

Ah yes, try this first, after the -autoconfig type -fullscreen, with a space in between. Try that way.

Won't let me type -fullscreen after autoconfig. It just clears the target box

I did the other thing and it says directx 9.0c. Is that what you mean?
