Exp penalty

Post by Squee »

Ok, when exactly do you get exp penalty, and can you see it?? If I have a male drow fighter 4/barbarian 3/Wizard XX --- does he get an exp penalty? If you have 2 classes and neither of them is your favored class then you get a penalty right?

And how exaclty does the one level apart rule work? If I have a female drow Monk 1/Cleric XX --- does she get an exp penalty if I picked monk as the first class?

20% penalty IF the levels are off balance.

Meaning, wizard is fine for a drow wherever it goes, but you have to keep the fighter/barbarian within 1 level of each other.
Listen up maggots, Mr. Popo's 'bout to teach you the pecking order.
It goes you, the dirt, the worms inside of the dirt, Popo's stool, Kami, then Popo.

Nope. If your classes are within 1 level of each other, meaning Fighter 3, Barb 2, Wiz 3, you have no worries. You have to keep all THREE within 1 level though, not just to. So you can't go like Fighter 2, Wiz 3, Barbarian 4, as the fighter and barbarian are 2 levels apart now.

I've never tried multiclassing... so please bear with me.

According to what Mr. Siberys said, "to avoid experience penalty, a character must keep his class level to a minimum of one level difference." For example, I want to build a Drow with these levels: Rogue 10/Fighter 4/Wizard XX, there will be an experience penalty between the rogue and fighter, right?

This is the main reason I don't multi/dual class. Leveling up is already a bit slow if you're a Drow, what more if I'm going to get xp penalties...

right there would be an experience penalty with that build, in fact no matter what race you picked you would get an experience penalty.

The problems associated with multiclassing (where playeres invest heavily in two or more classes) are why people mainly elect to use mix-ins (3-5 levels) of an alternate class/es which compliment a primary class.

Multiclass build = Fighter (10) Cleric of Helm (10)
Mix-in build = Fighter (4) Cleric of Helm (16)

Drow characters can work using mix-ins as long as you are willing to either level squat or play HOF mode.
