Undoubtedly Tremere is the best clan! (IMO of course)
concentrate xp on thaumathurgy until you've reached blood shield
empower firstly wits, dodge and stamina
then to your choice unharmed, melee or firearms

at the beginning it turns out to be very useful also persuasion feat

you'll beat the game without meeting your final death even once!! :D

Pay Attention: do not spread you xp thinly. Focus on a single skill especially the ability points you're up to give to your character in the creation sheet.
Sapientis est nihil facere quod se paenitere possit ! :D

You might want to look around and find a guide on XP maxing. If you do everything perfectly you'll earn a ton of extra experience by the end of the game though some parts might be a little more difficult because you'll have to allocate some XP to non-essential skills like Persuation. A few pointers to get you started off: Don't put any points in firearms, sneaking, or computers at creation. Don't put more then one point in brawl or two in melee. If you can get away with it, don't put any points into security til after you get the manual. Don't put more then two points into Research. Make sure you get three points in Perception before going into The Asylum. Don't complete any of the sidequests in Hollywood or Chinatown until getting a specific artifact in a crypt. (I'm trying to be somewhat cryptic since I don't know if you've played before or not.)

SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!
DETAILED INFORMATION FORTHCOMING! POTENTIALLY GAME RUINING INFO!
At Trip's Pawn Shop are two books that you can buy and use twice: One raises your Firearms Skill and the Other your Computer Skill. In the apartment across from yours is a book on sneaking. You can sell it to Trip, buy it back, use it, then buy another copy and use it to raise your sneaking skill twice. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO BUY IT BACK IMMEDIATELY! Before you talk to Knox the second time (assuming you spoke to him first outside the Medical Clinic) get your Perception up to three and you'll get extra XP for seeing through his deceptions and revealing the truth. At the beach you can make money easily. Sell the Vampire the blood out of your fridge, the one in your apartment, as Unicorn blood. There's a stake by the pier you can sell him as a "holy stake" make sure to sell him that AFTER the blood. Note that it requires persuasion to sell him this stuff. Intimidation is useful early on too. Access all the emails at the Medical Clinic and you can blackmail Dr. Malcom. Have a sufficiently high Intimidation and you can get twice the blackmail money from him. There's a snooty rich guy at the exit of the alley where your apartment is. With Intimidation you can get money and his watch off of him. If you try and steal more from him after that he'll call the cops. When you go to Downtown visit Nines for Brawling training which will bring you from 1 Brawling to 2. Before going to Grout's Mansion see Nines again to raise your melee from four to five. To get from 2 to 4 use a Kendo Manual you pickup in the Empire Arms Hotel. In the Museum Beckett will raise your Scholarship from two to three. Later in Lacroix's Office he'll raise it up another point so long as its under 5. In the Giovanni Mansion there's an artifact called the sauphalocet(sp?) that gives you +1xp when you earn 3 or more. That's why you don't do any of the Hollywood or Downtown sidequests til you get it. BUT you will need to setup the conclusion of the quest with the young hunter so she's waiting outside of the fish market for you when you go to the mansion. And that's everything I can recall offhand.
