SPOILERS?

The game can be sluggish in spawning these elementals. Yes, I think there should be 4 of them. When this happens to me, I just go into the fire room and run around a bit. This gets the game to spawn the next creature. This always works for me. So have you actually tried entering the fire room?

You're doing this the right way, by leading the elementals into the ice room, where they freeze. That's the way to do it.

If the giant is unkillable, then there must be one or more elementals left to destroy. If not, then you've encountered a bug. Try CLUA in a greater fire elemental?

Running around long enough in the room should trigger it. Another option is to close the door behind the giant so he can't get back into the fire room (and he will take alternate paths if there's one available, like going through the poinson room, et al). I always do that, and usually end up herding him into the ice room while evading his punches, and the battle is pretty easy from then on.

If no more giants spawn, your two options are to reload the last auto-save (at least you only redo level 2) or try exiting and reentering the level (which, of course, will overwrite the auto-save!)

I hope it works for you!

a pain and a SPOILER

I was on that part yesterday and had a similar problem - that I didn't think I had fought enough elementals - it was that the 4th elemental hadn't spawned and when I went back into the room, it did spawn and I led it off to freeze in the big chill cabinet.

BTW SPOILER

the end boss (Chromatic demon) is very easy to kill and it is not mentioned in such places as the Prima Walkthrough!

keep the party back and have somebody with boots of speed release the demon. then - lead the demon to the poison gas chamber - the gas does a lot of damage to the chromatic demon - best against the air version, but affects him in ALL varieties. hastened, the character can run out of the chamber and across to the other exit to keep the demon in the room - if you don't care about the xp, you can simply shut him in - I think you need a door open to get reports of the damage he takes, but I'm not sure. it does not take very long at all.

killing the demon is the easy part - the slightly tricky part is for the character to deal the death blow, as if the demon is killed by the gas, you lose the 55k points. so - get the demon into 'near death' state and then hit it with the ring of the ram to do 30 points damage and kill it. the alternative is to lure the near dead-demon out of the chamber, but as it panics when it takes to much damage and has morale failure, you need to be able to perform the killing blow with enough power that there is no chance of it being finished off by gas damage. weapons do so little damage that it can regenerate faster than most parties damage it - but not when it is gassed.

Man... I never thought of that. I just went through the 2nd level of WK soloing a thief and ended up having to trap the snot out of him to bring him down. You way is much more elegant. ;)

To the original topic, I again had no problem (hanging around in the room longer can actually cause more of the elementals to spawn but still it takes 4 to close the deal). It is rather easy to bring the Fire Giant into the ice room and close the doors behind him so he can't get out. Then, it's a simple matter of ranged weapons to bring him down without getting a scratch. Did you check your last auto-save just in case?

I ended up fighting around 25 fire elementals before I figured it out. Problem was that the Fire Giant never gave me the Axe of the Unyielding or the Helm of the Rock..

For the chromatic demon, just use elemental attacks. I don't remember his forms but what I do remember is use fire vs. ice. :p

Well, he shouldn't drop the axe. Find it on the Lum the Mad level. Keep your eyes open for creatures half man, half bull. ;)

lol, I never had the axe before so I assumed he had it because I never got any loot from him. I don't know about most people but after I kill a minotaur I never check the body because I figure it's just a battle axe..stupid me

You find an unanswered, relevant but dead thread. Real dead. The stink says: at least 7 years.

Write a note, place it next to the thread corpse and cast Raise Dead. Then run!

The note reads:
I have just encountered the same problem and was able to solve it by doing the following:
  1. Create a new non-quick savegame (in case my method doesn't work and you want to try something different)
  2. Relaod auto-save and save as new savegame, in case it doesn't work for you and you only have to re-start WK and not the whole game (optional but stupid not to do).
  3. Load the problematic savegame and leave Watcher's Keep and travel to the Bridge Quarter (any other location might also work)
  4. Travel back to Watcher's Keep and enter the problematic level. The fire elemental should appear now. In my case it was in the main hallroom.
I have encountered a disappearing fire elemental before when I summoned it at a position that was covered by a door which I opened while the caster was summoning the fire elemental. I'd call this "stuck in a wall". It seems like BG2 was programmed to 'clean up' levels when you get far away from them. Pure speculation though.
