Having problems with all the "unofficial" patches.
Having problems with all the "unofficial" patches.
If i patch higher then 1.2 the game does not load and i get a "engine failure scurry loading before parent file NPC generic" or something similar. Can anyone help me with this?
Weird.
Does Half-Life 2 run on your computer?
Do you have save games, back them up?
List your system specs if you are not sure if all your drivers, motehrboard (VIA), sound and video are updated.
Completly uninstall, delete you directory.
Reinstall try to run the game, just start it see if you can make the menu.
If so, patch with Offical 1.2 located here

Do the same try to reach the start menu.
Then you can try the Unoffical patch 2.1a

Trust me, most of the names I have been called you can't translate in any language...they're not even real words as much as a succession of violent images.
All drivers and system specs are fine. I can play the game with the official 1.2 patch and did for a few days then attempted to add the newer unofficial ones and get that error every time. Ive deleted/reinstalled the game 4 times now using different patches and still get the same error. I googled the problem and found a few vague references to others having the same thing occur but no answer as to why. Accidently deleted my saved games also
Okay...do this:
Make a clean reinstall, meaning: Delete all references of VTM from your computer, including the Registry !!!
Then install the game and official patch 1.2, since that seemed to work with you.
Then make a copy of the whole game ( right click on the game folder and copy it , after that rename the folder to i.e. VTM Patched Version ), then only the latest unoffical patch to the copied folder. Make a shortcut to your desktop and rename it to VTM Patched Version, so you won't confuse it.
Now try to run the game again....
Btw, did you apply all the unofficial patches ? or just the last one....
Patching the game is going like this: Install, Offical Patch 1.2, Unofficial Patch 2.1a or so. Not the other unoffical ones...just the latest !!!

Lucita y Aragon, Childe of Ambrosio Luis Moncada, Childe of Silvester de Ruiz, Childe of Boukephos, Childe of Lasombra
Well the only way to isolate it could be by listing your system info and drivers, i.e. motherboard, sound (onboard or not) and video card.
The unoffical patch before 2.0 just address text and broken quest which would never even be notice since they are based on savegame progress.
After 2.0 thye started fixing problems on maps, hence the larger size.
You can post your info in the offical tech forums for the patch here, if you can put up with gamespy for this issue.
