Help - Unable to cast protection spells - spell def.

Post by akkar »

I am playing a Fighter/Thief/MU. I just finshed most 90% of the chapter 2 quests. I try to cast Holly Strength, mirror image, spell turning and some others and the spell just fissils out with no effect. I can cast invisibility and stone skin though.

Is this a bug. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

whats your intelligience and wisdom...if they are low there are chances that you will fail a spell cast.

Never seen this one, so I can only suggest the obvious:

Are you wearing armor?
Are your spells being disrupted?
Have you been enfeebled?
Mind layer fry your brain?

Other than that, I haven't the foggiest.

Thanks for the response. My intelligence is 17 and my wisdom is 10. I am not wearing armour. It does look like the spell was disrupted, but when I cast them, it is with no enemies around. The other issue is that for the first half of the game, I was able to cast them.

I have fought mind flyers. Could they have done something to the character? It does not show in the stats page.

If so, is there any cure?

another thing to consider...is the level at which you have your game difficulty set...if you have it set to AD&D core rules or have recently changed it to that. The game will take into effect your int and wis when casting spells. If you set it to the lower levels it will not.
another thing is to check that you are not affected by spells such as silence or any other spells that affect spell casting.
and finally since you just fought mind flayers it is highly possible that your int was still low from thier hits when you tried to cast spells which is bad (see above about rules)

What's your magic resistance?

Edit: Also, are you invisible?

(These, and the others listed, are the only things I can think of that would effect spell casting....) Image

BTW You cannot target an invisible char with spells even if they are in your party...example if you attempt to cast a spell on a thief and he hides before you do, it will fizzle out.

I have tried casting with an empty inventory. Thus, no resistance. I have even tried to lower my resistance with a spell.

Maybe it is one of those bugs!
