I've tried killing the Drow a few times and I'm finding it REALLY hard. Anyone have any tips for me?
Thanks
How to kill the Freth Drow?????
Drow are very well-trained warriors. They are also great archers that can shoot point-blank ! Try to cast all preparatory spells before a known encounter.
For myself, my cleric would cast Prayer & Bless and possibly Aid. Then my 2 mages (personal one and Jarial) would cast protection from evil, haste, improved invisibility, fire shield and (optional) Bull's Strength and Cat's Grace. Also ensure the whole party is well rested and has all their spells.
When fighting a group of drow, try to concentrate all fire power on killing one instead of spreading the damage. This is especially true for archers because they can pick you off one by one. Mages should stand back and lob fireballs and lightning bolts if possible for mass damage effect. Also, if space allows, try to punch in a Cone of Cold. Wands should only be used as a last resort as I think there will be more difficult battles ahead.
My strategy is to let my monk rush to the center of the fray. Then I let the enemy converge around him, then I lob 2 fireballs on the whole group. My monk has superb evasion and so can avoid all the fireball damage while all the drow are wekaened. Please understand that some drow have AC greater than 25 and are VERY hard to hit. Try to single these out for spells like Flame Strike, Slay Living and Magic Missile.
Meanwhile, the cleric should provide support functions like healing wounds and if necessary, raising dead. (Remember to raise dead before battle ends or the dead person will not get XP)....
Hope all that advice helps ! Good luck !

I can appreciate the necessity for a certain level of difficulty in a game like this in order to keep things interesting. However, this particular battle was incredibly exhausting as far as time and patience. It took me the better part of 5 hours to finally get a decent strategy. Thing is, I don't believe my strategy was the best. I just got lucky.Originally posted by Holly:

The first 10-15 times they would let me think I had a chance until it came time to finish them off, then they'd all hit me critical. Not enough healing wands and spells to keep up with that. Plus the spell resistance was a major pain! Being buffed helped a little, but not enough for me to say that it was a necessity. Just roll of the dice to keep from being whacked constantly.
Hmmm. If it's the first battle with them in darkness (the only one to cause me real trouble) then Cloudkill (and other area effect spells), invisibility and staying back worked fine for me. They can't shoot round corners. Mind you I had some fun sending in my Monk/Fighter to finish them off. Perhaps you've gone down too early and aren't up to it yet?
By this time I'm so loaded down with goodies that I have to take ages choosing who uses what.

If this is indeed the first encounter with drow in the darkness that POD was talking about I killed 'em right away. It wasn't too hard. My strategy against drow, is if possible to get someone covering each one so they're forced to use close range weaprons which they're less proficient with and it also keeps them all from shooting the same person. Just send in everyone but the sorceror and the theif in this situation and have the mage throw magic missiles and the thief will just shoot at 'em poking away. So basically against drow try and keep them from using ranged weapons, and mass suggestion is a must with these guys.
