How is the shadow lord class?

Post by darkpark »

Has anyone played a shadow lord yet? I'm wondering how it plays. How exactly does the shadow lord skill work? Do monsters not see you or do they have a harder time hitting you?

After talking to Staroxia the first time, head all the way down to the south west and BUY the totem tree from Warglaw for 10,000. Go all the way north east to Grymlock's tower and head east and get past the tree guards. Get the shadow crystal on the island, swim south through the fog and complete the shadow ruins (be certain to pick up the Shadow Lord Amulet after defeating the Nausoleum at the star pattern. Identify the amulet.

You MUST have completed three heraldry classes for this next part and the last heraldry slot must be empty. When these requirements are complete, make sure all your weapon skills are at least 8 and all six of your stats are at least 40.

Now go back to Staroxia and ask about the SL amulet. She'll send you back to the Isle of the Damned to defeat a huge Dark Dragon that spews freezing clouds. Then back to Staroxia and she grants you the Shadow Lord skill, highlights the SL heraldry, and you will have the Shadow Lord icon in the Invoke section.

Put lots of points in your Shadow Lord diabolic skill. When you invoke it, you become semi-transparent which makes you more resistent to damage, and you float above ground and water. You cannot fly across gaps and ledges. The skill always uses the nearest ground or water as reference.

Can you tell me anything about how it plays? Is this shadow lord skill useful or cool?

Just gives you less damage, since you're a Shadow Lord, and 3 or 4 skills like alchemy, sneak, etc.

I've decided not the play one because it has a really weak set of learning bonuses. In addition, someone did write a critique about the Shadow Lord skill in another post. The writer said that the skill did not last very long and had a long recharge time. It did not really improve his character. You still take damage as a Shadow Lord. The skill uses the Crystal of Levitation effects in combination with a shadowing effect.

Perhaps the main reason to take this path is just to be a Shadow Lord. Just for the concept itself. I don't plan on playing one in the next 9 days before the game of the year arrives in stores. :p

I know what you mean Frodo.. *cough* Oblivion *cough* :D

That's disappointing to hear that the shadow lord isn't as interesting as it sounds. If it were me designing the game, I'd make the shadow lord a 4th tier class that can only be obtained by a mage and someone who hasn't taken a second class path. In other words, I'd only make it available to pure mages (either western or eastern). As for the skill itself, I'd have it so that while using it one is completely immune to weapons but spells do 150 (or maybe 200) percent of their damage to the player. That would be a fair trade-off and more useful.
Additionally, the class would grant generous learning bonuses to arcane and nether magic.

Cough-ships on the 20th-cough. That would be great if it worked something like that. You are using your imagination though, that is your problem:laugh:
