Spoiler treasure map

Post by ferncliff »

I made this map of all the treasure chest outside of dungeons and thought I'd share it on this forum. The locations aren’t exact due to the scale of the map but they should be close enough for you to find them. This list is from memory so the information isn’t 100% guaranteed. When unsure I’ll mark the item with a ‘?’. I don’t save/open/reopen magic chest so I have less of an idea what they contain. I identify the chest as magic, armor, weapon and trinket chest though sometimes magic and trinket chest are mixed.
1. Magic lev 4?
2. Magic lev 4?
3. trinket lev 4, underwater, Charm of Night, Devil's Ring, Colding Ring, etc
4. trinket lev 8, underwater, mostly high level rings
5. Armor? lev 4?, low level leather armor?
6. weapon lev 4 – 6 blood sword, bronze Kris blade, war dagger, elfin spear, low lev Asian weapons
7. weapon lev 4 - 6, , blood sword, bronze Kris blade, war dagger, elfin spear, low lev Asian weapons
8. armor lev 8, high level armor, crimson armor, deathlord, Mythnir, griffin shield, shield of fear, helm of storms, and more 1, 2 or 3 pieces
9. trinket lev 8, Talisman of Night, Cerberus Band, Band of the Serpent, skull of a fiend
10. armor chest lev 4 – 6, underwater, good asian armor and plain heavy plate
11. Magic lev 4, underwater
12. weapon lev 4, underwater, blood sword, bronze Kris blade, war dagger, elfin spear, low lev Asian weapons
13. weapons lev 4 blood sword, war dagger, elfin spear, low lev Asian weapons
14. magic lev 4
15. armor lev 3 or 4, low level leather armor
16. armor lev 4 or 5, good Asian armor and plain heavy plate
17. magic lev 4 or 5
18. magic lev 4
19. Magic? lev 4
20. Armor? lev 4 low level shield or leather armor
21. weapon lev 8, only gives winter dagger
22. Magic lev 7?
23. armor lev 7 or 8, some very good medium and heavy armor, druid armor
24. weapon lev 6 or 7, only gives battle bow
25. magic lev 6 or 7, underwater
26. magic lev 6 or 7, underwater
27. weapon lev 6 or 7 only gives sword + undead
28. magic lev 6 or 7, underwater
29. Magic lev 5?
30. Magic?
31. Armor lev 8?, underwater good Asian armor and plain heavy plate, dragon gloves
32. armor lev 6 only gives medium Shield of Rothn
33. armor lev 6 limited asian armor, Samurai armor
34. Magic? lev 6
35. Magic? lev 6
36. armor lev 6 seems to only give leather pants
37. weapon lev 6 some low level heavy weapons, ice scepter, other scepters ?, some good medium and light weapons
38. armor lev 6, some good high level armor, druid armor, Ninja armor?
39. Magic? lev 5 to 6

I was beginning to think no one had found any use for the map. You guys are welcome. Let me know if you find anything wrong or missing. Someone said there was another chest in the black swamp but I think they were mistaken. D

the reason I was so long in replying...

I was delayed because I was off scouring the countryside for the many treasure chests I had missed... too some time (and lots of dying underwater)
It drives me crazy that you risk life and limb and open a chest and get an elven sword... talk about a let-down... no wonder some players do the multiple re-open thing...

Yes, most of the underwater chests are barely worth the trouble. The one in Lake Lohr is nice because it gives you an opportunity to upgrade your weapon soon after leaving Fargrove and the chest in the southeast corner of lost lake has some nice rings. It seems if you're going to go to the trouble to find and dive for underwater treasure they should at least put some unique items in them. And yet I HAVE TO OPEN THEM anyway. I wonder if they'll fix the underwater breathing spell and potions in the next patch. Fixing Athletics so you can stay under longer would be nice too. D

Duh! You're right. I was all ready to write back and say "no way". I guess that one is #45 a level 7 magic chest. I got blast nova spell, blast nova scroll, and bone dust out of it. D

Underwater chests not worth it

I went to the trouble of opening two underwater chests in the lake on my way to the Shadow Ruins. What a waste. The southern most chest was so lame that it gave me gold and a health potion. WHOOPEE! I had to consume about 6 potions just to achieve this grand treasure.

Gobatcha, maybe it woulda helped if you had some liquid air potions or is that what you used? After the first two or three times through the game, I stocked up on the liquid air potions at one of the apothecary shops.

Nice work

Excellent work on the map. I did find one more chest that was not present on your map though. It's a level 5 magic chest just to the north of Skuldoon on the west side of the road.

Well done and thanks.

Another Chest you missed

Hi ferncliff,

I hate to break it to you, but you missed one chest... it's in a hut in the area north of Fargrove where you first start the game... level 1? You get gold, healing potion, maybe a 1st level arcane spell or a scroll? Can't quite remember.

Great resource, though! Saves a lot of time wandering the wilderness with the chance of still missing one in the grasses / weeds.

Cheers,

Yes I skipped the 3 chest in the area at the start of the game. I should add them at some point. I'd have to double check but I think they are:
Behind the broken wall- weapons chest, no lock, gives short sword, Elvin sword, small mace, gnarled staff, etc
Shack 1- potion and gold, level 1 chest
Shack 2- potion, gold, scroll, lev 1 chest
I'll have to double check because I'm not sure of the levels of the chest in the shacks and I think one of the gives lock picks. D

Chests 35, 36, 37, 40 & 45 - More Details!

Hi all,

I spent the time to open all of these chests at least 15 times (and chest 37 over 25 times -- you'll see why) just to find out exactly what might come out of them. Here's what I found:

Chest 35
Always get:
Gold (150 +)
1 Potion (Healing / Greater Healing)
1 Nether Scroll (Gripping Vines / Summon Rats / Sleep / Fear)
2 Nether Kataals (Bone Dust / Brimstone Powder / Ochre Pollen)
and always get 1 of either:
Arcane Spellbook (Fire Burst / Magic Missle / Shrieking Star / Freezing Touch / FLAMETHROWER)
OR
Celestial Crystal (Peace / Time)
NOTE: you get Flamethrower after the 15th opening, then get it every time after that - persistence pays!

Chest 36
Always get:
Gold (150 +)
1 Studded Armor (Top / Pants)
and 25% of the time get:
1 Potion (Greater Healing / Cure Poison)
NOTE: This chest always spawns a medium to difficult random encounter -- and once it was a Fire Drake -- good XP generator if you wait to get a good one.

Chest 37
Always get:
Gold (400 +)
1 Potion (healing / bloodlust / power)
and always get 1 of either:
Light Weapon (SCEPTRE OF EVIL / SCEPTRE OF FIRE / Elven night dagger)
OR
Medium Weapon (KATANA +1 / DWARVEN WINTER AXE / Topaz Sword)
OR
Heavy Weapon (Silver Battleaxe / Double Sickle Axe / Barbtongue Blade / Greatsword)
OR
Thrown Weapon (Golden Throwing Knives)
OR
Ranged Weapon (War Bow)
OR
Light Pole Weapon (Golden War Spear / NETHER STAFF)
NOTE: I can't gaurantee this is all the options. The Silver Battleaxe and Double Sickle Axe came up 3 or more times each, the Golden Throwing Knives and Dwarven Winter Axe came up twice, and everything else only once. The 23rd time I opened it I still got a weapon I hadn't seen before. The 24th & 25th were repeats. I stopped there, but only because I was tired of opening this one up.

Chest 40
Always get:
Gold (500 +)
1 Potion (Healing / Power / Cure Poison / Bloodlust)
1 Scroll (Ressurection / Gripping Vines / Sleep / BLAST NOVA / Blade of Baal)
1 or 2 Nether Kataal(s) (Monster Eye / Dragon Tooth / Spider Yolk / Borloth Horn / Black Orchid / Mandrake Root / Bone Dust / DIAMOND DUST / SHRUNKEN HEAD)
and 90% of the time get 1 of either:
Arcane Spellbook (Fire Burst / Fireball / Shooting Sparks)
OR
Celestial Crystal (Time / Dispel Undead / Solar Ray)
OR
Nether Spellbook (Beserk)
OR
Rune Spell (Spitting Shield)

Chest 45
Always get:

Gold (500 +)
1 Potion (Greater Healing / Power / Healing / Bloodlust)
1 Scroll (Gripping Vines / Sleep / Resurrection)
1 or 2 Nether Kataal(s) (SOUL STONE / Brimstone Powder / Monster Eye / Mandrake Root / DEMON HORN / BLOOD NECTRE / Black Orchid / Mordis Vine / Borloth Horn)
and 95% of the time get 1 of either:
Arcane Spellbook (Fireball / Magic Missle / Fire Burst / Ice Shards / FLAMETHROWER)
OR
Celestial Crystal (Time / Solar Ray)
NOTE: As with Chest 35, I got Flamethrower after the 15th time, and every time thereafter -- again, persistence pays.

I hope you find this useful, and happy hunting!

In CE, chest #33 is broken. You never get an acknowledgement that it is a chest, so you cant open it...

Actually, that chest still opens, but like all chests in the ce, you have to get on the correct side of it before you can interact with it. I had that problem the first time I played the ce with the chest in the north end of the bolen field. Just circle the chest and you will be able to open it.

BTW Thanks for making this list ferncliff, it's a real help!
