1: Name (handle, nickname, username etc..)

Aegis

2: Your country

Soviet Canuckistan, or Canada. Your choice.

3: Your age

20

4: Your proffesion/how far you are in education

Researcher/2nd year university student

5: What does your name mean? does it have several meanings? Is there a story behind it? Or is it just "cool"?

Last I checked, it was latin for 'shield'. It's a fitting name for my personality, as I tend to be quite defensive of people I'm close to.

6: Do you have several names? If so, why?

Other names I use are: I_Sage and The Pantless Crusader. I_Sage came from SYM, incidently. As for the Pantless Crusader, well, that's something my friends have dubbed me on account of the fact I refuse to wear pants if I can get away with it.

7: How would you react if you wanted to register an account somewhere, and found out that someone had had already taken "your" name?

It happens. The net was around publically for 5 years before I started using it, so it only makes sense that some of the more established sites have the name used up. For newer ones, typically it's not too much of an issue. Just resort to one of my fall backs.

8: Anything specific you'd like to add?

I'm fine and dandy on this one.

3: Your age

4: Your proffesion/how far you are in education
Grade 12, or Senior in the States

5: What does your name mean? does it have several meanings? Is there a story behind it? Or is it just "cool"?
My last name is pronounced like the letter 'zee', which is also pronounced 'zed', so The Z(ed). Usually I just use 'Zed' whenever I sign up for something new though.

6: Do you have several names? If so, why?
Nope.

7: How would you react if you wanted to register an account somewhere, and found out that someone had had already taken "your" name?
I'd find another name.

8: Anything specific you'd like to add?
I came up with my GB screen name when I was 14, which is the reason why it's 'The Z' and not 'Zed' (which I what I usually use now). The Z is really choppy.

4: Your proffesion/how far you are in education
Still at high school
5: What does your name mean? does it have several meanings? Is there a story behind it? Or is it just "cool"?
Well, Kythras, was when I needed to tihnk up a unique fantasyish name. I was reading some book at the time (Can't remember the name) and there were a bnuch of cool names in it.. I mixed and matched some of the prefixes and suffixes and cam up wit Kythras. I use it alot for names of characters in RPGs and for internet sites if "Blackjack" is taken (Which is usually is)

Blackjack came from the first music camp I ever attended. For Rec. on the first day we did bushwalking, some guy (An older student) said I looked like Jack Black (from Tenatious D, Shallow Hal, etc) he told all his friends, they told their's... by the end of the camp people were waving at me and yelling "Hi Jack" thinking it was my actual name... A month or so later, I needed a new name, to Jack Black became Blackjack...
6: Do you have several names? If so, why?
People don't know my old ones and they give me new ones, Or I get sick of old ones and make new ones
7: How would you react if you wanted to register an account somewhere, and found out that someone had had already taken "your" name?
Well, I have a few, so I wouldn't be at a loss

7. Take another nick. For Lestat: I can hardly claim a right on the name of a character invented by someone else. ;) And for Corneel: I'll mess with the spelling.

Yes, that's something I've been thinking of. I belive that's the case with many people, and that's half the reason why i want to find out if names really mean something to us, because if you use internet to express yourself in ways that you cannot yet do in real life, then the identity connected to your name must be important to you.

Again, thanks alot for participating everybody ;)

5: What does your name mean? does it have several meanings? Is there a story behind it? Or is it just "cool"?: It's a triple-entendre, based on the work of Patricia McKillip, paganism, and rock music. Yes, I know that some people say that there is no such thing as a triple-entendre, and they are idiots.
6: Do you have several names? If so, why? Actually, I do. Mostly because it's hard to remember the passwords.
7: How would you react if you wanted to register an account somewhere, and found out that someone had had already taken "your" name? I have my name precisely because nobody else would think of it. It belongs to ME. I'd fight, but I couldn't take it to court because I didn't register it as a trademark.

Surrealistic voodoo doll?
I thought of it when trying to sign up for my first yahoo email account or something like that back in 1998, I think, and everything I thought of was taken. I was listening to the song "Voodoo Dolly" by Siouxsie and the Banshees, and I combined that with Dali (for the artist) and it has just stuck with me.

6: Do you have several names? If so, why?
No, this is the main one. Voo is just my shortened nick, and I am registered under that at some sites. Former names (a long time ago) "YippiePunk" and "unhinged"

7: How would you react if you wanted to register an account somewhere, and found out that someone had had already taken "your" name?
I would be very worried, because the handle is really unique, and I think it would only be done in a case of someone out to get me!
If this occurred, I would naturally create a Voodoo Doll which I would torture and the identity thief would be very very sorry indeed.

I didn't get in on time to answer your first question so I hope the new one isn't somehow related.

That said:

1. Malsolle
-no reaction; run-of-the-mill internet nickname. Poster is probably female, but who knows.

2. Somnophore
-no initial reaction; after I googled it, I concluded this person is a Magic: The Gathering nerd.

3. Maxhavelaar
-tries really hard to be unique. Everyone tries to have a somewhat unique nickname, but Maxhavelaar has gone the extra mile.

4. Wisedragon
-Plays too many RPGs; is probably thirteen years old; thinks dragons are cool and identifies self in username. I'd wager wisedragon is one of those annoying people who always post "in character" pretending to be their username, even in serious topics. *flaps wings* *brethes fire*

5. Nightfalcon
-Plays too many RPGs, probably male and thirteen years old; thinks falcons and nights are cool and identifies himself with his username; only opens the curtains of his room when his mother yells at him. Annoying "in character" posts would be his specialty too, if he could figure out what the character of a night falcon is.

6. Z00ze
-People who replace numbers for letters are as a rule not exceptionally bright;I'd probably ignore every single post the user makes.
Vicsun, I certainly agree with your assertion that you are an unpleasant person. ~Chanak

Malsolle: Sounds a like a feminised French or Spanish name. Mal, conjures "bad," while "Solle," suggests "Sol." The name appears to mean something like "Bad Sun."

Somnophore: Evokes the word "Insomnia." Or the French word for sleep, "Sommeil." Beyond that, I don't have much of a reaction.

Maxhavelaar: Sounds like a corporation

4. Wisedragon
5. Nightfalcon
6. Z00ze
I concur with Vicsun on these names. I don't think any of them would attract my interest.

Mor: I draw a blank, or wonder if the person has trouble spelling "More," or "Moor."

1. Romanic language imitator, so probably a romantic (though I think the lingo now it would be "emo" I suppose).
2. Huh? sleep inducing??? Not a good idea.
3. Admires Multatuli (Dutch Writer) or "fair trade" . If he admired Multatuli, he would require some literary background and would have written Max Havelaar. So "fair trade" anti globalisation type of person. And probably Dutch(speaking). Uni, from middleclass parents.
EDIT: from reactions of other people I see this needs explanation. Max Havelaar is a "Fair trade" label for products (coffee mainly, I think) amongst others available in Oxfam World shops in the Netherlands and Belgium. It is named after the main character and titel of a novel by Multatuli which denounced some of the practices in the Dutch Indies (current Indonesia) especially of the coffee planters.
