I have the wind gem in my inventory, I go to the wind well, I click on the well and it still says "You may... (something somthing). How do I give something !!!!
I dont know that location, but if things say "you can give items", simply RIGHT-CLICK with the mouse on it, it will say you the name of the thing you can use. If you already have it, you can click on it and bingo.
(I had that problem too, when making the +3 axe/shield)
