Minsc, maces, Boo and the inevitable Anoweenie questions. (spoilers afoot, newbies)

Post by Luis Antonio »

Hello there!

Here I come to share a doubt.

I was thinking: Minsc comes (default) with dual wielding ++ and with ++ in maces. Then, my mind started to itch.

Why should I keep him with Huge Swords? The two handed swords in the game that are better than the average are found on ToB or need a paladin to wield them. Now, maces, maces are easy to find, despite the lack of many options +3 and +4 maces on SoA, and I still can, for example, have proficiency in Two handed swords to use those in the special occasions I need +3 or +4 weapons.

Wont the extra atacks per round help me? Cause I feel, as his thac0 is not that great, I could really use extra atacks per round to compensate. Say, in the vampires lair, for example, I could be wielding flails and cause mass destruction with the mace of disruption +2 main hand and skullcrusher offhand, or some atacks per round enhancing weapons.

Now about Anoweenie. I'm giving Anoweenie Maces, but I think that he'd do better with hammers - therefore Crom. But the problem is, he has too low AC or he is just the favourite victim of the improved ones, cause he keeps either whining about his health being too low or dying. Which spell combos should I use? Which kind of strategies should I have? Is Crom the best option here? Should I stop using him as a frontliner with Minscy and give him Jaheira as frontliner instead? Or shall Jaheira, Minsc and Anoweenie go ahead and leave the spellcasting to Jan, Me and Aerie?

Remember: I'm playing on Insane, Tactics mod, no improved undead, no improved bodhi, yes improved Irenicus, Ascension... yadda yadda. No ubber items yet. Currently going on the evil path, fighting improved thieves, who backstab as hell, died a million times.
Flesh to stone ain't permanent, it seems.

I prefer to dual weild maces in the beginning with Minsc. You can steal a couple of +2 maces from the shop keeper in Maver's guild. So you start off good put your next proficiency in two weapon style to help out the off hand and then use the rest toward a secound weapon depending on what other members use I usually go with longsword or flail for the flail of ages if no one else can use it effectively. As far as Anowoosie I almost never play him but when I did I gave him Crom with his buffs he wasn't bad still not my favoite.
BTW Jahiera is a good secound tank with sword and shield style(lots of good options for shields usually carry a couple for her to switch to depending on the situation) plus druids have some excellent spells in BGII.
:) Once again time to give someone the boot to make room for Coran. LOL :)

Well, Jaheira is FIGHTER/Druid, Anomen is FIGHTER/Cleric and Minsc should be a fighter. So to answer your question, yeah, send them in then follow up with spells. If you are capable of fighting, you and Anoweenie could switch positions, but I can't suggest anything because I don't know your class. But I suggest getting rid of Jan for Imoen later(if thats what you weren't planning to do) because he can't use Necromancy spells.
Boo will have clean wood shavings you evil bastards! -Minsc

Luke Schenn will make you pregnant with a glance. Caution is advised.
