This thread sounds a bit strange for me, as IE = bugs, but if they do release a better next version, things will easier to decide. however, I do doubt it.

First of all, let me say, it's great to see they found an independant, unbiased person to quote

That said, they all have security flaws. They all can be exploited. The difference? People HATE Microsoft. People USE Microsoft. People STAY with Microsoft.

Basically, if you are a cracker, then you have a number of options:
a) The majority will go against Microsoft, because they have suffered at the hands of them, be it through Windows, Internet Explorer, Office, or their business tactics. As such, it's personal revenge. Meanwhile, Firefox has done nobody harm, so no one has anything personal.
b) If 90% of people use it, then you have a 90% of hitting someone. So you can invest a year's worth of code breaking and you will stand a better chance of succeeding if you try something with more people.
c) Nobody can be bothered changing. As such, most of the flaws in it will remain once discovered, and be used again and again. Why something like this doesn't work with a different browser, is because someone who has got that, is more likely to be aware and as such, be able to handle threats.
d) IE is just locked. They can't change the coding, it's still the same (though Vista sets out to change this). As such, they were originally weak in security and still are. So new flaws are constatly being found, working on the same principles.

In other words, it's life real life. The more popular and famous something is, the more people who will be against it, therefore the more flaws that will be found.

That said, that article is a load of rubbish put out by Microsoft.

Oh, that and Firefox rules!

I use Firefox not out of hate of IE but out of preferance. IE as a browser is perfectly fine, and I can see why most casual users would continue to use it even if they were made aware of alternatives. I'm just a techie at heart though so I appreciate the extra 5% versatility, efficiency and speed I gain from Firefox (or I atleast think I gain).

Lie. IE's success is solely because it's implemented in Windows. Most users, especially new ones, do not know where and how to get "better" browser, so they learn to use IE. WHen they have learned IE, there is quite low chance that those users will learn new one.

If you have access to a better product why you would not choose it.

See my comment above. Most users just do not know where to get free and good browser, and mostly they don't want to sacrifice time to search such. It's mostly those people that change browser who use internet very much and IE is not best option to that. Sure, for those who rarely surf on internet, IE is good alternative, but really not the best one.

And they really think that we believe this? Just look how often there is "security updates". How can I think that browser is secure when I have to spend many hours in a week in downloading security updates...?

Wow... I'm really surprised Rookierookie hasn't been flamed all the way to Hell by now...

Personally I very much prefer Opera... I use Firefox, though, since I just hate the Opera interface

In IE defense: at low connection speed and with regular breaks in connection (as is the case for me), IE is actually less annoying and somewhat faster than the other two.

I used Netscape and IE ever since our family first became interent savvy, but have discovered Firefox in the past year and aren't going back. I like it so much, in fact, I'd be perfectly willing to pay an extra couple bucks every month just to be able to use it: the google start-up page, the extensions, the built-in pop up blocker, the download manager toolbar... These things may be offered through other services too, but I refuse to change.

Has to be one of my favourite and most used features actually, the little Google search box. The superbly integrated extensions system is great too.

Don't worry mate, you fit into the 99% of people who can't recognise sarcasm online. Most of the people here are in the 1%... the ones that weren't... they didn't last... or, at least, they aren't the same anymore...:mischief:

This reminds me of the time when we would hang out in the Citadel and someone told us Tequila was not really good. Of course, the person in question (cant recall the name) used to like vodka, but hey, tequila is the HLOS (Holy Liquid Of Spam) and therefore it means every spammer should be bound to it as an elemental is bound to its element (duh). Anyways, sarcasm is really pretty. My uncle Alfred, in 1973, had a nice story about being drunk and sarcastic, which also reminds me that when he first saw a computer he said the two colorfull words to his boss when he told the accounting should be done there. Anyhoo, that's besides the point, what really matter is that Internet Explorer is as bad as drinking vinegar instead of wine.

I honestly think that if IE wasn't owned by Microsoft and bundled with Windows, it would have been ditched long ago in favor of Opera. It's simply a virus magnet attached to lackluster features.

It also dresses funny and its breath smells bad.
