Any way of getting around the plattform jumping?

Post by Gange Rolf »

Up til now I thought this was a great game. But since I reached the Shadow Ruins the game suddenly turned in to a kind of plattform jumping game. Much like the sort my wife loves where you are supposed to jump around and pick tomatoes and diamonds in the air. That isn't realy my kind of game.

This kills the game totaly for me.
I have spent an houre trying to get over some room with plattforms going up and down and every time I miss and land in the water I have reload the game and start over. I just hate it, there is no fun at all to that.

Is there any way to get aroud this, even cheats will do.
The alternative for me is to stop playing, and that would be a shame since I have had grat fun so far.

I personally have no ideas other than what the walk through says, and can imagine no alternatives from experience.
Basically, just camp out for a minute or three where the knight is getting attacked by shadows. Then, go through the gate, and immediately run over to the right towards the first platform and wait. If you need, you can time it a little early, but basically wait until the farthest platform begins to drop. AS SOON as it starts, jump to the one in front of you. DO NOT wait until you see the next come up, just jump on faith. Get to the top left corner of the first, and blindly jump to the second. On the second, get to the top right corner, and blindly jump to the third. On the third, get to the top left corner, and jump. That's it.

If you're talking about the area with the small unmoving pillars, that's no problem, but may take a couple tries. The pattern to follow, in order, is right in front of the door. I remembered them by colors, but you can do so by shapes, or both. Just get to the opposite corner of the pillar you are standing on, aim where you need to go, then hit towards and jump at the same time. You can hit towards a little early. I had to back up so as to not overshoot the pillars.

The small pillars with the runes on was pretty obvious how to solve, as the correct pattern is outside the door, as you say.

I'm talking about the one whith the pillars going up and down in water.
I have red the walkthrough where it says to do as you describe above. But still have no luck. My char can't even jump as far as the first pillar. I usually land in the water after my first jump.

Hrmm. If that's the case, I really have no good ideas. You have to hold forwards as you jump, and you have to jump right on the corner, but you're already doing that. My last, best guess, is maybe acrobatics lets you jump farther? I've always had 4 in acrobatics when I got there, maybe that's the difference?

Also, I read there's some guy on the dreamcather forum that does this for people having problems? Maybe you can e-mail himn your save, and that'll do the trick? If you can't get ahold of him, I'm willing to try for ya, but won't be able to 'till tomorrow afternoon.

It is a pain in the <fill in a part of the anatomy>, but it is possible. I do agree though, that in this game, that is the worst part. Not all people have good manual dexterity, so areas like that can quickly kill the game for them.

I gave it a couple of more tries. But second base is as far as I can go if I'm very lucky. There is no way I can make all four. And I hear from others there are even more of this jumping-s***t in Vale. Shame, it was a fun game so far. I just don't have the patients to reload the game hundreds of times to get past an obstacle. Thanks for trying to help, see you in another game.

Try a time warp crystal in the room with the knight before entering the room with the pillars. Then try the walkthrough method in slow mo. It makes timing the jumps alot easier and helps you keep your cool.
If you can make it through this part there are no other parts in the game nearly as bad. D

It's not hard at all if you time warp right before you enter that room. Just do what the walkthrough says. I can't see how you wouldn't be able to jump the proper distance. Maybe we are misunderstanding the problem...

I tried upteen times to do it. Several times I'd reach the ledge only to have the shadow portal opening close.

BUT eventually I was successful. So, keep trying. Don't lose hope <g>

As a last resort, there's a guy who in the past has let people send him saved games from just before the jumping puzzle, and then he's completed the puzzle for them. His address is in one of the threads here, but you'd have to hunt around for it.

SWC
Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

Yes, you are right.
After closing down my computer yesterday I came to think of the Time warp spell. So first thing this morning I tried it. And it worked. Got through in only 3 attempts :-)

Thank you all for your support.

Tarsellis has a good idea. I failed miserably on all jumping until I raised acrobatics to 1. Since then it only takes 3 or 4 tries to complete any jumping crap. I also hate the jumping, I'd rather have 10 levers and have to figure out the correct pattern of up or down.

congrats GR

I had my acrobatics at 4, but raised it to 6 before trying with the time warp, just to be sure. Can't tell if it made any difference.

I'm not much of an acrobat myself.
I prefere an army of nasty creatures any day.

A puzzle that can be solved with some creative mindworks is also fun.
The four platforms that was to be lowered and raised with levers to form a pathway was a bit trick, but others where pretty obvious, like the one with the runes outside the door. In the cessboardroom I didnt get see the puzzle at all. I just altered between 2 squares to make 2 of the guards move forward while the other two stayed put. When the gap was big enough I just sliped through. Probably should have killed them though, for the exp pionts.

But this level payed off pretty good anyway, I now have 3 million exp points I don't know what to do with. :-)

Multiplayer

If you wait in the main room, while the other guy(s) or girl(s) completes it, you'll be slingshotted into the Chessman area. Time Crystal helps too! My dad uses it for every puzzle because it makes it a lot easier. Oh and the Chess puzzle is easy if you only have one guy do it, or else the chess man will move 2 or more spaces.
Garth the Forgotten One shall live to fight another day!

Water Jumping area

I agree, this section is a royal  pain. It took me over and hour. The only way I was able to do this was to use the time crysta. I only had to do it 3 times with the time crystal to ge3t in. I almost gave up on the game because of this area.

The most extreme method is to hex edit your save. After the last occurence of character name, replace one of your inventory items xxxx 04 with D600 04. That's the only thing your'e after anyway, after getting past the chessboard beyond the acid jumping room:mischief:
