So frustrated...

Yeah, I got oblivion, and I have some decent specs on my system. Let's get right to that before the problems.

768 Ram
Plenty of Hard Drive Space
MSI Nvidia GeForce FX 5500
2.16 GHz, runs like 2.8 about.

Now, my problem is, I know my video card is bad, and it said that it's the minimum on several tests that I did. I can run Doom 3 with this card just fine, I can run Quake 4 with this card just fine, but EVEN with the specs turned all the way down, the latest driver installed, and the settings turned high preformance and low quality, I can't even create a character.

I'm first going to see if it's Direct X, I'm not sure if I have 9.0c on my system (I did a recovery recently, which resets Direct X down to 8). But if you have any ideas, that'd greatly be appreciated.

Keep in mind that I'm broke, so a video card is out of the question for now. I don't care about graphics, I don't care about anti aliasing, I just want to play the game at a decent speed.

Any thoughts?

Check DX9 first. If it's 9.0c, there's your problem. If it is... come back. =)

I'm far from an expert on this tech stuff. Here's my input anyway. I can tell you that I have never had a problem playing any other game on my computer. I am having some trouble with lagging play right now. I am upgrading to 1 gb memory from 512 tmo. I hope that solves all my problems, but we'll see. I started with medium settings, which was what was recommended when I loaded the program the first time. I made a mistake and turned anti-aliasing on at that time. I found that character creation was the worst thing of all, with the cursor moving like it was made from pure mercury. It was painfully slow. Playing in the prison/sewer were laggy, buy doable, but things sucked after that. So, I quit, turned off anti-aliasing, lowered some of the settings, and defragged again (I had done that right before installing Oblivion). Things have worked better since then. I have major lag at times, but I hope that will disappear soon. I'll let you know if my memory upgrade makes a significant difference.

If you have anti-aliasing on, turn it off. I bet it will make a major difference.

BTW Can anyone tell me what anti-aliasing does?

Direct X didn't do squat, so any other thoughts?

Anti Aliasing is smothing out textures, like the difference between seeing a line with jagged edges and smooth edges.
