Lately, I've been having real trouble with fighting most monsters. I'm at around level 12, and I get seriously whooped by for example Trolls (the big ones) and Dryads .
How do you other people fight with the mage-class, do you guys use the bind equipment magics or something?
Because I mostly use summons and fireballs, but I run out of mana too fast, and then, well .
I'd use my University staff for the insane damage but then I'd have to pay the hefty amount of 1600 gold to have it recharged.
It's not easy being a glasscannon :/
I mentioned something similar in another thread - I am simply getting pasted by anything that hits hard. I play a Nightblade, so I do have some weapon and armor skills - but even things like Mountain Lions are taking me out at level 15.
Things have improved a bit since I learned to properly use my shield (i.e., keep the mouse button depressed all the time until I attack).
I have also moved the difficulty slider down a bit. I hated to do that, but it is no fun to be creamed in fight after fight. I have been slowly moving it back up as I get better at the fightiing.

Several problems have been noted with creature leveling. Although it happened in MW, it appears that in Oblivion creatures automatically have maximum health, and a much higher level health than the player for their level. They also have strong stats for their level. None of them seem to have less 4x or 5x multipliers.
It's been suggested that people experiencing this difficulty turn down the difficulty slider. Or, you can try downloading a mod that slows level-making, allowing you to become better adjusted to new creatures.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Oh hehe.. Mine was at around 75 %, wonder what it would be like fighting a Troll @ 100 %...
Gonna try a bit lower then and see what happens .
I was having some problems at 50%, and have adjusted down to about 33%. That seems a tad easy, but I will probably keep it there for a bit and gradually take it back up.

you can make lots of mana potions if you have a decent alchemy skill. just make lots of potions and use em. Also if you can afford it enchant an item with feather so you can carry more. With a grand soul gem that can be bought from calindil in the mage shop you can get about 50 extra points carrying capacity per item. You can carry lots of potions with that 50 points. alchemy ingredients are mostly cheap. I buy from both gilded carafe and main ingredient, make as many potions as possible and then sell all that i don't want. then wait until they restock and do it again. When your alchemy skill gets higher you'll be able to buy better equipment. I am a master of alchemy so i can make them with one ingredient and sell potions for about 37 gold apiece to the main ingredient. I can make about 5000 gold each round. A little tiresome but it works well you can also collect lots of ingredients in the arcane university allowing you to make even more cash
When the warrior is not in battle he doesn't rest. He sharpens his sword.
As mentioned this is more than likely related to the levelling system rather than your own gaming skill

However at the moment the mod scene is still very much in its infancy and as you can see from the link there are a variety of different options - it is unclear yet which one will emerge as the most efficient at solving the issue. Your most secure bet at the moment is to lower the difficulty slider as you progress through the game

"I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!"
At level 12 you should not be getting whooped by trolls, the monster I think level up as you do. So they should pretty be the same as they worry when you where at a lower lever. I find trolls to be quit simple to kill, the hardest creaters to kill IMO are black bears and Spriggan(cuz they summon black bears).
