For the XBOX version, it's the 'X' button.

Jeah, it's a bit tricky. I figured it out after an hour of playing by accident.
So to the point, you have to go to the inventory and press the left mouse button on the item a bit longer until the inventory disappeares and then just release it. If on a container/body you don't have to press it long just one click on item and the object transfers to the body.
If there's no room on the ground you'll get an appropriate message.

You can also just keep shift pressed while clicking on the item to drop it.

This is way I like console games better, the controls are much easier. With PC you have click about 5 buttons to just to perform a simple action like dropping items. With xbox all it is is just press X and BOOM! gone, the items is on the ground.

I do it this way - click left button, hold it and drag it away from the inventory. Just make sure there's room ie that your char is looking at empty space.
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.
