Due to a bit of electronic mischief, apparently, it looks like an announcement that Blizzard was to make at the European Computer Trade Show has been leaked online. The information contained includes this passage:
"During a press conference today at the European Computer Trade Show, Blizzard Entertainment unveiled World of Warcraft, a massively multiplayer, online role-playing game set in the rich fiction of Blizzard's Warcraft universe. Featuring bold 3D graphics and deep, immersive gameplay, World of Warcraft will allow thousands of players to adventure together in this epic setting and will provide them with a new, in-depth perspective on familiar lands, former battlefields, and heroes from the legendary universe. In addition, World of Warcraft will introduce new, uncharted territories and foes never before seen by followers of the series."
Assuming that this isn't disinformation to make everyone keep guessing, it looks like Blizzard is trying to make an full-blown RPG. Infact, it sounds alot like NWN.
As someone who monitored the "Diablo 2 getting a bad rap" topic with great interest, I think i can already feel the hostility towards Blizzard, a company who has already been accused of subverting the RPG genre.
My two cents on the subject is this: I like Blizzard games. I enjoyed Starcraft, I played Warcraft briefly (didn't like it - forces were too similar), and I still play D2. So Blizzard has produced two of the games in my top-ten list. I'm therefore prepared to give Blizzard the benefit-of-the-doubt about this new RPG. I look forward to seeing what it has to offer. And I won't question its RPG aspects till I've played the game.
So I now have three games that I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing:
Master of Orion III
Neverwinter Nights
Worlds of Warcraft
I may be disappointed when any of these come out, but the waiting is part of the fun. I only hope that people don't automatically dismiss WoW on the singular reason that they didn't like D2 being marketed as an RPG.

Blizzard's RPG
I won't write of WoW just because D2 was marketed as a RP - but if it isen't a RP, I will write it off, no matter what they label itOriginally posted by Duramath:

Blizzard is now trying to get a piece of the MMORPG pie. However, I don't think World of Warcraft sounds alot like NWN. First of all, it does not include a single-player campaign, there are no content editor, and it's just another MMORPG set in the WarCraft universe.

Uh, craig, that's a nice conspiracy theory, but this is the real world.
Most game companies, especially Blizzard, want other games to succeed, because it widens the gaming audience a little bit each time a new person plays a great game.
Edit: The only exception is MMORPGs vs MMORPGs, since people most likely won't pay for more than one game monthly. However, NWN is not an MMORPG, in fact, it could help the true MMORPG market grow since it is so much like them.
