Changing Appearance - help

Post by Nirvana24 »

So I became a vampire, but hated what it made me look like. Loved the eyes, but hated the sudden shift in age and complextion.
I opened up the command prompt and used the ShowRaceMenu command, changed my appearance, and was really happy with it. Though, once I reloaded the game, despite having saved it with the altered appearance, the face didn't save and it just went back to the crap one.

Any ideas on how I can get an altered face to stay?

Hm.. that seems to be tied in with being a vampire, I have no trouble using that command and saving my games.

My guess is that being a vampire adds a set of parameters to a face that are preset and not stored in your saves. Upon loading a game, those parameters are simply reapplied. Makes sense because at some point after curing yourself you'll probably want your old face back.

Unless there is a way to tamper with those preset facial values directly, I don't think there is anything you can do. I'll have to look at the TESCS again and see if I can find anything.

Well it looks like there is something you can do, although it's a bit of a hassle. If you download the Construction Set, you can access the 'default' face values for each race including the vampire face that I'm guessing will be applied on top of your own. I suppose you can edit that face, make it younger or whatever, and then store the changes you've made as a modded data file. Activate it by selecting it in your datafiles list before you start Oblivion. Welcome to the modding scene. ;)

You can only 'view' that face on top of a default vampire face, which is just bald Breton/baby-like head. Kind of impractical if you're character is an Argonian. At any rate, that's all I can come up with.

I have a problem using the ShowRaceMenu command: once I've used it, it resets all my skill progress and level progess etc.

Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know a work around?

Cool, thanks Tricky! I downloaded the TESCS last night but didn't have a clue how to use it, but I'll look at some help things and try and do what you suggested.

As for the resetting of stats, yea that happens if you use that screen. The only option that has been suggested is writing down what they were before altering your face, and then change them using the appropriate commands in the prompt.

Sorry for the double post, but, I couldn't find anything to do with Age or Complexion. I saw under the Character -> Race -> Vampire - >FaceGenData that I can deal with all the textures and shaping of the face... But can't seem to find age or complexion anywhere.

According to this site: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Face_Tab
there is something there, but I can't seem to find it...
(the problem being I'm not seeing any 'tabs' under NPC... All I see is a list of the races in the object view screen)

Edit: Okay.. found what they were talking about. Made the age/complexion changes there. And also went to the character->race thing as mentioned above, and played with the eye shadowing stuff.. I saved it, loaded it at the start up, but my character looks no different.

Hard one. This may be completely unrelated, but Morrowind had some problems with corrupted savegames after adding new data files. I don't remember any details, but it's worth a try creating a new game and see if anything has changed.

Bah, too far in to start over.

I did, however, find a mod someone made. They had it so that whenever you fed, you'd be at "0"% vamprisism instead of 25%, and thus would give you all the abilities of a 25% vampire, but let you keep your face. As you go up to 50% and higher though, your face still changes.

I'm more or less happy with this. Only problem is that I don't have the cool eyes anymore.. unless I'm 50% or higher... which I don't care to be at any given time!

I'd like to tweak this guy's mod so that the vampire eyes still remain... but am clueless how I would do this.

I tried adding the "vampEyes" to the list of eyes that a Wood Elf can have (I'm a wood elf :P ) but couldn't figure out how.

EDIT: Oh cool. Got it going. Yay :)

I've come across a mod that you may be interested in, not sure as to its quality and whatnot, nor if it will even work if you've tried modding the game yourself. Worth a try though.
