Do Nirnroot regrow like other plants?

Post by Abuse »

Just wondered, as the entire geometry disappears when you collect it.

If there is a finite amount of Nirn, I might not want to give it all to the bloke in skingrad >_<

Looking at how quickly mods came out to make other plants behave like nirnroot (disappear when harvested), I expect Nirn regrows in exactly the same way as regular plants, its just displayed differently because of its quest-like nature.

Actually I don't think it does, at least I haven't noticed. But don't worry, a friend of mine got obsessed and went looking for the things, and only them. Found over a 100.
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.

They grow, but not in the same spots, ive noticed several pop up around the imperial waterfront district, in places they werent earlier. Also slight spoiler:
Spoiler
after you give old sinderion the first ten he will make a weak version of your elixir, if you bring him twenty more he will make a stronger batch

I've been finding them scattered hither and yon. Just look for them around those watery places.

Ninroot does not grow back and the number of plants is fixed. There is a specific number of plants in the game. If you map them out, you can find them more easily if you replay the game.

Not just watery places...(SPOILER)

I've found a lot of Nirnroot being grown in pots in houses next to peoples' beds. Often I'll break-in and just take the Nirnroot whilst my victim sleeps. I'll have to see if they plant another or not. I also found one during the Cheydinhal Mages Guild Quest at the bottom of the well behind a rock. I haven't gotten the 20 batch completed yet.

Oh, SNAP!

Just realized that the Mage Guild walkthrough already talks about what I previously posted. Doh!

Really? I've found them growing in the same places they were before, several times. I've gone back on purpose to look. I don't know if it's the same all over the map, but the ones I've checked have been there again, later.

I figured they SHOULDN'T regrow, because you pull 'em up by the roots and nothing is left behind - so I guess they must have previously seeded!

I believe they randomly spawn along water edges - I have definitely collected nirnroot from roughly the same location multiple times.

I've collected around 70 now, in my 90hours of play ^_^

I think they're levelled, like monsters. I've never found a Nirnroot in the same place twice, but I spend days at the same level before progressing. If you level quickly, you may find them in the same place more easily.

Perhaps each stage of the nirnroot quest causes more nirnroot to spawn?

Somebody should venture back to shadeleaf copse after they've been away for awhile, and see if any are growing there.

I doubt I've been away long enough for them to grow back, if they do.

Nirnroot respawn

I've been back to the grove several times game-months (and many levels) apart and none have respawned there. Spoiler:They definitely like water and shade. Except for the potted plants in houses (and one weird one underground and underwater down a Mage's Guild well), they are almost invariably close to the edge of a body of water and usually beside or between rocks & trees, under bridges, in corners of castle walls, etc. However, they also seem to prefer warmer climes. I only found about 20 or so total on the shores of Lake Rumare, but they grow like weeds further south on the banks of the Niben. Found almost 100 by walking slowly from Bravil to Leyawin on the west bank and back on the east bank. Seems like I picked up a couple hundred pounds of crab meat in the process too, but I digress :) Sometimes it seems like they respawn in a nearby spot, but maybe the searcher just missed a few the first time through the same area. BTW: third-person view would save a lot of time circling around rocks & other shady obstacles if you're not a first-person purist.
Can the answer to this question be "No"?

That's a good suggestion, Belthan, thanks! :) I rarely go third-person.

I suspect you will never find more in Shadeleaf Copse, because that is a place you are specifically sent to by Sindarion - but I have not been back to check.

Nirnroot do NOT regrow - sheesh, even the game itself tells you this.

Having said that, there is more than enough Nirnroot growing around the place to finish all the mission parts of Seeking Your Roots.
