Think after all this talk its about to put this theory to the test.
Alot of useful info so might give it a go - but for now I have a party of sic playing:
Half-elf Jester
Half-Orc Cleric/Thief
Human Totemic Druid
Elf Beastmaster
Dwarf Assassin
Gnome Illusionist
Going to die shortly now doubt so until that happens the Avenger/Druid remains on ice.
Dude, wtf?

Yeah, let's go for this party:
Assasain->Cleric (can't backstab anymore unless you actually manage to get thief HLAs in time)
Diviner (most of the divining spells you can get even if you're a conjurer)
Wizard Slayer->Druid (so the only magical items he's allowed to use, he can't use when he's shapeshifted)
Fighter/Cleric/Mage (heck, I'd even rather use Aerie than one of these)
Gnome Cleric (well at least he's more intelligent than the average cleric....)
Skald (so they're OK, but once all the bards get enhanced bard song, this guy's much worse than even the Jester!)

You can backstab with some quarterstaves (not staff of magi though, that would be sooo cheasy) and with clubs. Extra item mod, throw the club that gives 5 *'s on a mainhand of an assassin and dagger of +1 backstab mod. With 5* club having gimpy two weapon style points doesn't even matter that much.I find Cleric types much better with Turning, but Ranger-> Cleric is lovely, and though I haven't tried it, Stalker->Cleric would be interesting too, with the extra spells. Shame that it can't backstab anymore.
Its crazy. Club of detonation is a good BSer as well.
Staff of Ram + 6 on an assassin turned fighter with 5*'s of quarterstaff is big damage and double 2 handed weapon style can have some crazy crits. Then using use any item you switch to staff of magi, run, hide, do it all again.
Throw a belm in offhand, then shapeshift.Wizard Slayer->Druid (so the only magical items he's allowed to use, he can't use when he's shapeshifted)
Any character that can use staff of magi and cloak of non-detection is pretty cheesy in my books.
One of the more cheesy combos I did (that took a long time to come into fruitition) was Wizard Slayer -> Thief with points all in 2 handed weapons. *spoiler* Had Carsomyr + 6 and Staff of Ram + 6 for BS at the end, crazy MR with Carsomyr when tanking. I think I got over 100%. Add in using scroll of stoneskin or protection of from Magic weapons with the immunity to normal weapnos attained in hell and all the other resistances gained he became quite the meatshield. Wish it was possible to be a Wizard Slayer -> Swashbuckler though.
Other defensive Cheesieness comes from using fighter -> druid is ironskin + armor of faith + defender of easthaven + a beefy shield. Super AC and 45% resistance to damage, then you throw on a hardiness to really eat up the physical damage. Becomes truly rediculous if you collected the parts for the golem armor and you get your AC better than -20.

Definate good stuff there.
Glad to hear about the fighter/druid however. Going through the phase of Avenger/Druid vs Ranger/Cleric so want all the info I can get before I make an informed decision as which to choose for my uber party.
Note: Divine or Druidic Spellcasters - love the Golem Armor - it will make you unbeatable.
Since the r/c has access to druid abilities he'd also have the ability to transform into a fire elemental himself. So it's actually possible. Sort of.
I thought a C/R got Druid spells, but not their shapeshifting abilities or HLAs.
and the ranger main stat is con, which makes them "highly resistant to poison (pfeh) and having higher hit dice rolls (that one works)".
Only Halflings and Dwarves get a bonus resistance to poison based on their CON.
About the Stalker->Cleric: You might be right. I seem to remember having had some problems along those lines. Oh well, the Ranger->Cleric would probably be better anyway. I guess that means the beastmaster can't dual either.
The Beastmaster > Cleric is the only legal dual-class with a Ranger kit.
BTW, why dual class when mulitclassing is so much better?
on edit: Reading this thread brought a big smile to my face. It's very rare when Jan Jansen and Anomen are given their right due in consideration with their power. These are two very powerful NPCs.
And also, I dont think druids suck - they're just underrated and level up slowly, but once leveled they're powerhouses, IMO better than clerics, due to the spells, which are to say the least better tactically than those of the clerics.
Can you be more specific? From personal experience, druids are about the lamest most useless class I've used. Partly because clerics have all the useful spells that druids get and more.
BTW this is my opinion, I prefer not to start a flaming session

I have to agree. Clerics get all the incredible 7th/8th level spells, And turn undead abilities. While Druids only really get Stoneskin, a few buffing spells, and Elemental transformation, they make decent fighters, but that's not really much compared to what Clerics, who get more spell slots even.

Sure I can. They level up quite slow, and they have not many decent spells. Ok, yes they do. But they also can be quite the thorn if you know how to handle them.
In the opened areas they have call lightning wich is really awesome. Its no use for many areas of SoA, but in BG it was a must, specially against the countless beings that atacked you in the woods.
They gain entangle at level 1, and shilleagh, and if you've selected clubs as your melee weapons this a very good way of holding the masses of enemies and bashing those who get out from the entangle area.
Barskin is not really usefull at the end but it casts quite quick and gives you +1 to AC and +1 to all saving throws, which can be very usefull. And it comes at level two.
Miscast magic and summon insects help them against the lower level mages. If in the woods, you cast summon insects and miscast magic, then you call lighting and the mage is doomed. I think this is the first great advantage and disvantage of the Druid - cause Clerics gain summon skeletons at the same level, and skellies are the ubber weapon of distruction (because of magic resistance) while these two spells I've mentioned are save or else style. Anyway they're reasonably good, and I enjoy using them with Jaheira. I've miscasted and held John Irenicus already, and I know how fun it can be to see him fail casting.
Call woodland beings can hold your Jon Irenicus or anyone and give you many clerical powers. Also, it can mass heal your party and it can be used as a good diversion tactic. Poison is a very good spell too, but it has the tendency of not really working due to the save or else thing, but it is highly usefull against mages (dont use it against fighters. Somehow it seems to work less against them and the poison at mages prevent spellcasting).
After you gain call insects you're very well in the game. Almost no spellcaster can prevent you from stopping his castings. Call insects after a summon bears and a call woodland beings means you have: A party of melee fighters, a support cleric casting hold for you, and something disrupting dangerous spellcasting from your enemies.
Iron skins is probabily the best druid spell of all if you're playing solo, and I wont even discuss it.
Wondrous recall is very good too, very usefull to recall the iron skins and the insect plague so you can cast it twice.
I wont go into detail about the quest spells and habilities, cause they just rock. Not a single one is useless, all of them deal damage and can render a party of enemies stunned with the power of the druids.
Regarding shapeshifting I think you're not good as a druid, but you can use it very well for your good. For example, shapeshifting bear can save you at the copper coronet (since the guards are really awesomely easy for a fighter but hard for a cleric/druid to get through). Shapeshifting wolf gives you agility and certain strenght. The kits allow you to shapeshift to werewolf and regenerate, and to summon certain animals into your aid. I like the kits, but I'd honestly play a pure druid so that I can use the leather armour without problems.
Have I answered the question?

I though we finally put the druid to rest after discussing the two uber custom classes of Avenger/Fighter vs Ranger/Cleric ?
Guess not.
Try to rephrame from using 'lame, lamest or suck' - backup your statement with relevant information as is the case most often in the BG 2 Fourm - the Avenger/Fighter I have been fighting for it since the beginning when someone stated that druids 'suck' with logical statements regarding everything you can think of.
I'm not going to reiterate what already has been stated.
If you'd like more info on these two classes go back and read a few pages everything is discussed there.

On another note - has anyone tried making custom characters with the benefit of tools such as Shadowkeeper ?
I read somewhere long ago there a barbarian/cleric/mage roaming somehwere.
There is nothing cheesier.
If so please post.
Would be interesting to here about classes that are customised in such a way.

Custom Characters
To answer your question: you can look for posts by UserUnfriendly. He had used SK to customise PCs with uber abilities that you may be looking for.
As for non custom cheese characters, I personally like the Avenger Fighter which I have played twice; Creeping Doom and Nature's Beauty is really a sight to behold.

Cheese on Cheese
After reading so much about the Cleric/Ranger (and having had a pretty successful one in Icewind Dale 1), I got the bug to try one in BG2. I rolled one up last night. First roll was real bad so I rerolled. On the second roll my stats scores totalled '92'. Talk about cheese on the cheese. So my cleric/ranger has 18/89 strength, 18 dex, 18 con, 10 int, 18 wisdom, 10 charisma. Plus, with the Ring of Human Influence you get early from the circus he now has 18 charisma too. Probably should have rerolled something more balanced but just couldn't resist having a character start with with such good stats.

Stat Rolls
Da_Venom,
I don't have any mods on my game (if that makes a difference).
But usually my character rolls are in the mid-high 70's. Since there are 6 character abilities getting just a 10 in each would give a minimum of 60. Maxing each ability at 18 would be a 108. But 65 (whoa, scratch head) that's a tough character to play!
