depends on what feats you have and the stats you have for the character. my fave armour for the exile is the jal shey advisor armour with strengthening V underlay and armourply IV overlay, combined with a high dexterity, high wisdom, lightsaber finesse, dual lightsabers (with wisdom, dex, keen etc. and my personal crystal and upgrades that maximise damage and defense). i find this set up is perfect for a jedi master/sith lord as it maximises your force power damage and use and also gives you a very good hit roll for when you do use melee, and the damage increases make up for the lack of strength that my characters generally have.

as for the others, it depends if i decide to make them jedi or not, which feats i decide to give them, and what armour i actually find (i very rarely buy armour or weapons, if at all lol)

Dunno about weapons, but:
For armor, if you/any of your NPCs are hardcore jedi (uses a lot of powers) go for either Zeison Sha or Jal Shey armor. I swear by it. You can upgrade it immensely and pretty much anyone can wear it, excluding Kreia, I think. The only 'downside' is that it makes male characters look VERY lame.

As for upgrades, I always use the highest heath underlay I can get my grubby paws on. It heals 1-3 hps per turn blus some CON bonuses if I remember correctly. Also, no negative stat effects. Don't remember much about overlays, though. I swap out them pretty often relative to what I'm about to fight (blasters/melee/jedi/droids).

Myself, I like melee fighting, so I like the special vibroblades-especially the double ones-that I can upgrade. I also like those Gamorrean axes.

For me, the best thing about armour isn't he armour itself, but the underlays and overlays, easpecially those which absorb a lot of energy damage. Both blasters and sabers do mostly energy damage, so 25% off energy counts for a lot... Restorative underlays save a lot of waiting around for FPs to regrow to heal, as well, especially in the middle part of the game.

i usually try to get everyone w/ two weapon fighting, so the weapons packages for eveyone are pretty similar:

everyone not named bao gets blaster pistols, w/ pinpoint or targetting scopes, mandalorian chambers and rylith powercells. (improve damage + some side effect)

bao gets the best rifle i can find, he gets upgrades that improve accuracy and damage.

--

droids - their 2nd set is an anti-droid package, going w/ accuracy scopes and ion chargers, may be a rifle.

--

others usually get a vibrosword & vibroblade, mulline (one or two may get ostrine) edges energy / sonic cells, zabrak grips. (keen, + attack, + damage) will use some double blades to avoid doubling up on upgrades.

usually if i find any melee weapon that can be fully upgraded i'll give it to somebody to use. imho if you have a lot of skills your upgraded weapons will deal more damage then the non upgradeable ones.

lightsabers:

stat boosting crystals, usually imp gem lens, deflection / fencing emitters, diatium or jolt cells.

i try to stay away from using double-sabers a la maul once i have enough decent saber gems for everyone.

armours:

i usually go for robes for the pc, and either enviromental or biorestore underlays.

others get: for the most part stay in their default gear, though i will switch handmaiden to the best heavy armour i can find w/ flexi underlay and bonded plates.
