So where are Varla Stones? (SPOILERS)
So where are Varla Stones? (SPOILERS)
OK - so I am level 29 or so with 50 hours into the game, and have yet to see a Varla stone. I have finished off at least one of every "type" on dungeon - ruins, caves, mines, oblivion gates, etc - but still no stones in sight.
Where does one find these things?
I am not really looking for detailed spoilers - just a nudge in the right direction....

In the A Ruins, like Vilverin, Belda, Sercen etc. There are the W stones, which are blue and the Varla ones, which are white. You usually have to find a way to lift that contraption of metal, that's on a pillar, with a switch to reveal it.
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.
A handy trick for V & W stones which you think are out of reach is shooting them down with a bow and arrow.
A fireball would probably work too....
Actually, my Acrobat is really high, so I can just jump and get the W stones.
Since I posted this earlier today, I have run through 3 additional Aeylid ruins, and STILL have not seen a Varla stone.
Can someone post the name of a ruin known to contain them so I can be sure I am not just missing the things?

Well I didn't find them at Vilvering, but I did find them at Piukanda and Sercen so you should look there for starters. Varla stones cannot be shot down because they are almost never in plain sight, but usually covered by that metallic cap of a sort that you need to lift. If you do see something resembling a Varla stone just outside be careful - it can easily be a trap - they turn red and shoot ... something ... at you when you pass by. Those cannot be taken.

Since posting thisa thread initially I have managed to find several stones. Other posters are correct - unlike Welkynd stomes (sp?) the Varla stones are have not been in plain view to take - it is instead necessary to find a switch or hidden room to get to them.
They are also quite rare, at least compared to the Welkynds.
They are indeed rare. Apart from the one in Castle Choroll, I've only found one other after 65 hours of playing.
After spending the last day doing almost nothing (gamewise) but look for them, I have managed to find four (in addition to the one in Choroll). Two were part of a mages guild quest. The other two were in southeren ruins near Bravil (can't remember the names offhand).
Methinks I am saving these up for the inevitable boss battle at the end of the main quest (assuming there is going to be one....)

Vilverin *Spoiler*
Go thru the Vilverin Wendesel door. You can find a Varla stone in the Vilverin Chamber (a button accesses the key to the door). Inside the chamber is is a large orb suspended over the center of the chamber. Take the stairs to find the button that raises the cover. I used a telekenisis spell to grab the stone.
If you go into the Sel Sancremathi, you will find an Ayleid Statue- you'll have to kill Jalbert the Necro to get it.
