Shovels. Pickaxes. Have you gotten them to work? (spoilers)

Post by fable »

No, I don't mean equpped. You can't equip them. But there are areas that lead me to believe they're supposed to work when in you inventory--such as Bleak Flats Cave, with a pick on the floor before a small, blocked off area, and a special icon that arises when you can take action.

Only, even with the pickaxe in my inventory, I can't get the small cave-in to move. I've noticed this elsewhere, too, as in the Imperial City tomb, with a shovel and a bunch of stone coffins that also provide an action icon. Anybody know exactly what gives?

I am not entirely sure to be honest, I have been wondering myself. I couldn't get it to work with anything at all so far. Usually in areas that appear hidden/secret I end up finding a switch. Pickazes haven't worked on a thing. I fear it may be just for needs of realism and not use. We could add shears to this list, what are they for? Scales as well.
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.

Yes, it's a long list, but there doesn't appear to be anything those latter can do. On the other hand, the pickaxe and the shovel seem like they should work, since there's an action icon on nearby objects: the cave-in in Bleak Flats Cave, the raised coffins in the family tomb. You can click on them, but with or without the pickaxe or shovel, nothing happens.

i have a pickaxe in my inventory, and I'm able to dig on gold/silver vanes in som oe the caves. IIRC, I also harvested some gems (not 100% sure, as the fight in the cave got too intensed I was like in a trance, so I didn't pay attention of whether those gems are from mining or chests). Never tried mining without a pickaxe though, so not sure if I really need a pickaxe to get the gold or silver nuggets.

You can get ore from ore veins without a pickaxe.

Nah, you can mine without them, just hit action key and the ore is yours, it looks like a chest.

Fable can you tell me where exactly in Bleak Flats Cave are you encountering this? I'll go see what happens for me.

Ore isn't the question. That's why I didn't mention it. ;)

Ashen, I didn't capture an image of the map, but if you go in there, you can't really miss it. It's the only deadend corridor in the place, really a stub of a corridor, and it's walled off behind a cave-in. Placing the mouse on the cave-in brings up a different icon, presumably for some action--digging, I suspect. But attempting to do so, even with a shovel or pickaxe, does nothing.

I would assume they are just their to add realism.
They have said alot of the items has no use what so ever.

And, I would be surprised if you were able to use those things and didn't get some sort of info that you could.
Perhaps the place where you get the different icon and are somehow supossed to do something has to do with a quest, and only when you get that quest and perhaps a questtool will you be able to get past.

Fable, great, I'll take a look as soon as I get myself out of Oblivion! I am highly intrigued by this.

On that note, I was killing some trolls today and each troll had exactly 7 calipers with it. Very very strange. What does one do with calipers?

Ah ... bizzare then ... the magical number 7 ;)

Anyways ... the cave thing.

You enter go straight, entering tiny room 1. Go up and enter big room 2. On the left side there is a tiny outlet with a little room but nothing there to activate for me. Now on the bottom right ( like a little drop in the room there does appear an icon but you cannot activate it from there, it's a secret door. When you follow the corridor from 2 that is in upper right, you enter smaller room 3, then the corridor straight down to 4, then bottom left another corridor, first left, then down, entering elongated room 5. Go all the way left, then up, there's a lever to open that secret door. Could it be it, I checked, when you are in 2, you do get the activate icon and then the message the wall does not shift or something like that. I don't see anything else.

I have found that some of the cracks is brekabal, it just requres pressing the button repetably, and others nothing happens. it might be that they were all ment to be brekabal and some bug prevents it in most cases.
