Mercantile skill (SPOILER)

Post by soni_wisdom »

It seems that I have encountered a bug with the mercantile skill. After freeing Dar-Ma and getting my reward (5 points of mercantile) the skill remained stuck at the same level since. I have sold items worth at least 15000, with the highest price I could get, but the skill remained unchanged...
Any idea about how can I make it increase again?

DId you haggle while selling?
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.

yes, I have... I haggled to the maximum possible price... Depending on their skills, at an average of 65%
It's not that I need this skill too much, since I can make loads of money from looting dungeons, but i'd like it to grow...

I've had the same problem

I've done this quest, too, and noticed that my merchantile hasn't gone up either, so it must not be a problem with just your game. I also haggle while selling and get good deals. Perhaps they'll release a DLC patch sometime?

Yup. Same thing happened to me after freeing DarMar. I'm level 26 now and the only way I can get Mercantile to rise is to pay a trainer. I sure hate to go back to the gamesave b4 freeing DarMar...

btw I'm using a PC, not Xbox 360

And yes, I haggle before selling. Before Dar-Mar the skill was improving.

I do experience the same problem, but I have actually gained one level in merchantile after that, but I have sold about 100 k+ worth of items.

The same exact thing happened to me with this quest. I thought that maybe it was just me but I have a feeling that there is a bug associated with this particular quest. After completing the quest I went from a Mercantile skill of 13 to a Mercantile skill of 18. I then continued to gather Alchemy ingredients and make potions like I normally would and would then sell potions for gold. (Decent source of cash for a Mage at low levels)

What I noticed however was that I remained at a level 18 Mercantile skill for a long long time. It wasn't until a significant time later that I noticed the progression bar actually beginning to fill up and to continue leveling like it did prior to doing this quest.

It's almost as if, it gave me the +5 bonus bringing me to 18 but continued to level up as if I was still at 13. But not giving me the "Your Merchantile Skill has Increased" message at each level up. (13 to 14, 14 to 15, and so on until I manually exceeded level 18 on my own anyway).

So, I'm not sure if this is the case or not but it seems like the quest gave me an immediate boost but didnt continue leveling from 18, it continued leveling from 13. (Until which point I actually leveled all the way from 13 and exceeded the +5 bonus that the quest gave me) At which point, I began leveling again as usual. (I'm now around level 28 or so. But, I stayed on 18 for what seemed like forever)

Hrmmm thanks for that post, Raven. I'm stuck at level 39 (I've paid a trainer to get there). Maybe it will unstick itself like it did 4 u.

Same has happened to me too :(

Anyone have an idea of how to fix it through the console?

I've got tonnes of high value stuff I want to sell, and need my merchantile skill up to do it :(

btw,
I wonder how training interfers with the 5 levels you skip by saving Dar-Ma, as I have since trained the skill up 15 levels, is the training going to compound the problem - leaving me stuck on my current level until I naturally level up 20 levels?!? :(

Raven is right, I use the BTmod (highly recommended) and can thus see the progress in skill as percentage.

After I received the 5 points in mercantile I had a progress of -400% (I had just leveled it so I was at 0 % before). It advances normally from there on, just takes ages to make up for the negative progress, as many have already seen.

Doesn't seem to affect it when training though, as I have been doing that frequently. No idea of how to fix it, eventually sorts itself out and I don't have any money probs anyway :D ...

Do you actualy have a mercantile skill of five points higher than your previous skill? Can you sell for more and buy for less? This could be very useful if you already have a maxed out mercantile as I plan to soon...
If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him.

You get an increase in skill, but not as a fortified skill like with some other quest rewards, but as an actual skill increase and as far as I know that is capped at 100% in all cases.
