Dark Side ?

Post by joe05 »

Guys - I have a few questions.
First off, thanks for the help in my previous post.
Realy enjoy this game ... I'm physically disabled/wheelchair/house-bound and I've been playing from 7pm-3/4am each night ... I should quit at 12mid, to take my pain meds and go to bed, but this game is like a good movie you can be part of :-) ... no pain; no gain !

Anyways, I'm thinking of going to the "Dark Side" if I replay the game.
But, I enjoyed the "relationship" with Bastila :-)
I'm going to fight Dark Malak tonight.
You know what I'm hoping happens ... I don't want to "spoil" anything for anyone

If I go to the Dark Side when I replay, will........>
1) I be able to get into a relationship with either Bastila or Juhani ?
2) Will anyone like me; or will I just be playing solo

I liked the "hitting on" Bastila ... ok, I'm a guy ... I thought it livened up the game and opened up dialogue
Based on the character dialogue screens, it seems I will have to be mean to everyone ?

These may seem like pointless questions, but the party aspect/scripting etc was as much fun as the combat.

I don't want to give away the plot.
So, I'm trying to phrase my questions delicately :-)

*** Can I be bad and get "a girl"; have others follow me etc ... this, while being completely evil or as Dr Evil would say: "semi-Evil or Evil-lite" :-) ***
Poor Dark Malak, he has no social life :-)

If I have to be a loner and a jerk, I'm going to start "SW: Sith Lords".

Any help would be appreciated.
If I can play as I wish, does anyone have a build ? ... I have a rough idea since I've looked at the "powers"/equipment
If I can't play as I wish, well, thanks for indulging me in what are non-important questions :-)

Was just hoping to prolong this game.
Lucas Arts did a really nice job !!!

you can start the romance with juhani but not finish it if ds as (spoiler)
Spoiler
you end up killing her if ds
.

not sure about the bastila one as never done it, you can still do the carth one if female ds so i suspect you could still do the bastila one if male ds.

as ds there are loads of people that still stick with you til the end, but the more goody two shoes ones won't after a certain point lol.

ds can be quite good fun in kotor 1 so i would recommend it - at times you can be really evil lol. my fave build for ds in kotor 1 is a scout/consular as it ends up similar to being a sith lord in kotor2, and i pick nothing but universal and dark side powers. the ds powers are pretty powerful, especially force storm and insanity (and the one that drains their health and gives it to you, can't remember the name, is pretty handy to heal yourself mid fight)

mr_sir: thanks.
You've helped alot !
Never figured on the "support" role for Bastila, so I turned her into a combat build :-)
I tried switching characters during combat, but the screen interface was different = I don't remeber being able to choose combat options for my NPC's ... maybe I'm missing someting ... no biggie, I enjoyed getting everyone into the battle

I'll go "evil" in the replay.
I'm curious to see what happens.
Will have to change my responses, choices + do some bounties.

Wonder what gear awaits me on the dark side; how will I look ?

Anyways, thanks for your help.
Time to start/finish the " final planet".
Hope my character is ready for Malak :-)

To change the combat scripts for the characters I think you have to go into the character info screen, select the character you want then click scripts. not entirely sure on that but i know its in one of the info/inventory/party selection menus. sorry, been awhile since i played.

mr_sir: you're really making this game fun for me :-)
I think I remember a scripts button on the player profile ?
I will try it.
Finished the Light last night 3:30am ... this game is killing me
I can see, what "powers" I should have tagged :-(
Nothing like fighting "everything the developers could think of".

But, since I've played a few RPG's, I had a hunch how to minimize the battle ... I don't want to spoil anything for anyone

I'm going Dark now.
May do it twice ... male and female = see if the story differs
Really nice scripting/dialogue etc.
I wonder how much depth they were able to put into this game based on the character/light-dark/persuade etc....

Going over my powers notes ... I want to tag those I really need
May go strictly powers ?
Hope I can survive long enough to tag them :-)

Time to be really evil !

just a bit of advice, if you do manaan the ds route then make sure you finish off all other manaan related quests before
Spoiler
going for the star map
as it has a few consequences.

I'm not sure if there is much different doing male or female as i always play female, but there might be :)

As ds the final battle can be tough, but if you already know how to defeat malak it should be a bit more straight forward. using combinations of ds force powers is very efficient in battles though :) I have done kotor before as strictly powers ds and it is quite fun to do, although taris can be a bit tough at first if you have no melee skills etc. but you can use other party members to compensate most of the time. If you do go all powers, make sure dex is quite high and also make wisdom and charisma quite high too. I usually have very little strength, constitution around 10 or 12 and the rest in dex, wis, and cha if i go the ds powers route. the dex not only helps your armour class but also helps before you are jedi as you still get a good melee to hit roll and can use blasters a lot easier.

mr_sir: thanks for the advice.
I did Manaan near the end in the LS game ... I don't really remember the progression on that planet ... when I get there, I'll factor in my DS bent and the consequences

Yeah, thought I'd try powers over melee ... mix things up
I just hope I tag the neccesary powers ... I don't know/remember how many powers tags one gets ... I should have made notes ... I went thru the manual, picked out those I want and we'll see if I can tag them all
Hard being evil :-)

I'm trying to do the opposite of my LS play.
I will try female next = see what happens

As always, appreciate the time you take to make KOTOR a bit easier and thus more fun.
