Playing Rpg:s in school?

Wow. Just got a brilliant idea (Look at the lightbulb)! wouldn´t it be great if people started to play RPG´s in school? you know like math or social science... younger children could learn at a younger age the meaning of responsibility and to use their imagination better..

Well if was in the Math class...
Nice Idea but do you know how much it cost to have a decent colection, You will need to start
a)The DM guide
b)The Player´s Manual
3)the Monstrous Manual
And those things have a very nice price tag on then.
If you what to play, there are clubs were you can usually buy the Manuals, there you can always find someone to play with.
Note. adventures , even small ones, goes for a long time, usually a week playing a average 4 Hours per day.

Well Drakron Du´Dark you are very prctical indeed, I have to give you that

Im well awered that thare are local clubs witch I can participate in (wich I do). you also say that it takes a lot of not so cheap books and stuff well that is correct

I suppose people could share books... take turns in adventuring... About time... hmmm I´m not saying that you shold play 10 adventures in a row... and students spend almost all of there "awake" time in school anyway

As for the responsibility and using their imagination it would be a good idea ...but then it would get it the messy area of ' I don't want my kids taught that Evil and Vile stuff.' Good idea though.

well you still have to sell the Idea to the School board.You will need a room, someone responsible for the things in there, the books can be share but you know how combat is on PnP...
If you know anyone that will suport that Idea, then peticion the School board, but you will have problems with several students in there.That is what my experiance in that says.

well I´m not actually going to go to my school board aadn try to sesll my idea... Just playing with the thougt.. and it´s fum to hear your idées about the subject as well... And about it´s too evil.... common how many of you didn´t play with plastic swords when you were smaller... you didn´t turn out to be ax killers did you?

When I was in Jr. High in the early 80's I was in a gifted/talented class. This is where I was introduced to JRR Tolkien and to some paper based strategy type games (before PCs). We heard about other G/T classes that played D&D, but we never did.

THAT would be a cool idea...

But think about it. How many persons do think that rpg'ing is useful, except of the ones that really like playing rpg's? The one thing I know for sure is that many people laugh when I tell them that I am (or was that is, not really doing it in a group anymore) rpg'ing... So I believe that the possibilities of getting rpg'ing as a "lesson" (couldn't find the right word

) are = 0... Sad but true, it would be much more fun than something like geology (ungh I hated that one)

When I was in school (grade school) I played RPG in my own way. I always used to love those choose your own adventure type books. The TSR ones even came with a book mark that had your char stats and HPs on it. Teachers would usually let me do it in class. I believe they did not like the fact that I was reading the books while they were teaching but at least I was not talking or getting into trouble with the rest of the class.

Ah but some of us did have RPG 101 in school. Grantwed it wasn't an everyday thing. My school had a "RPG club" that would meet every friday after school. It was rather interesting. I got to learn about a lot of different games. Also as for the thick necked bullies problem. All you have to do is date their sister and they leave you alone.

Hey - I actually started RPG'ng in my high school library. We had access to rooms that branched off from the main area 'cause the librarian liked us. Not school sponsorship or anything, but we had one heck of a time - I think I started out playing Marvel Superheroes and the guy DM'ing actually had us cross over into the DnD landscape and kick some evil butt. Superheroes do pretty well against Asmodeus (yes you can see I started early).
